Exterior parts on the 2010-2018 Ram 6.7L Cummins

The 2010 Ram 2500 and 3500 brought the fourth-generation heavy-duty body, with a new exterior and interior and a Crew Cab added alongside the Regular Cab and Mega Cab. The brand split from Dodge to Ram for 2011. The truck ran through 2018, and the 2019 fifth-generation HD replaced it with a new body.

Under the hood sits the 6.7L Cummins, but the engine has nothing to do with exterior fitment. The cab and bed matrix does:

• Regular Cab: 8 ft bed, 140.5 in wheelbase.
• Crew Cab: 6 ft 4 in bed on a 149 in wheelbase, or 8 ft bed on a 169 in wheelbase.
• Mega Cab: 6 ft 4 in bed only, 160.5 in wheelbase. There was no long-bed Mega Cab in this generation.

Every configuration came in 2WD or 4WD, and the 3500 was offered with single or dual rear wheels. The 2013 mid-cycle overhaul changed the grille, hood and headlamps, though 2012 ST models got the updated grille and bumpers a year early. RamBox bed-side storage became a factory option for 2013.

What fails and why

This generation has a few known exterior problems worth checking on any truck you own or are about to buy. On 2013-2018 trucks, the power-locking tailgate latch and actuator could fail and let the tailgate open while driving. That is covered by recall 19V-347, with 18V-486 for 2015-2017 trucks. 2013-2017 trucks fitted with AEV Katla 8.5 in cast aluminum wheels were recalled (17V-499) for outer wheel fractures, and 2015 owners reported Nexen Roadian tread separation at 7,500-10,000 miles. Run your VIN through a recall lookup before you spend money on the back of the truck.

Stock vs. upgrade

Exterior parts on a working diesel earn their place by doing something. A PowerStep gives you a step that is there when the door opens and out of the way when it closes, which matters on a tall 4x4. A urethane roll pan changes the look of the rear of the truck. Plate brackets give your license plate a home once the rear setup changes. A core support cover finishes the engine bay so the front of the truck looks as deliberate as the rest. None of these change how the truck drives; they change how it works day to day and how it looks with the hood up.

Fitment notes

Order exterior parts by cab length, bed length and front styling: 2010-2012 versus 2013-2018. Steps and boards are sold by cab, not by engine, and Mega Cab doors and rockers differ from Crew Cab, so a Crew Cab board is not a Mega Cab board. On 2013-2018 trucks the DEF tank and the chassis-mounted fuel filter sit along the driver-side frame, and running board brackets have to clear them. The WCFab covers split at the 2013 front-end change. The BHP roll pan is listed for 2010-2024 6.7L Cummins trucks. The 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs use different frames, so verify chassis-cab fitment separately. When in doubt, give us the VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Do I shop running boards by engine or by cab?

By cab. Regular Cab, Crew Cab and Mega Cab each have a different rocker length, and step bars and boards for this truck are sold by cab rather than engine. On a 2013-2018 truck, also confirm the brackets clear the DEF tank and chassis fuel filter on the driver side.

Which WCFab core support cover fits my 2014 Ram 3500?

The WCF100546, which covers 2013-2018 trucks. The WCF100539 is the 2010-2012 version. The split follows the 2013 front-end change; if you have a 2012 ST, which got the updated grille and bumpers a year early, call us with the VIN before you order.

Was there a long-bed Mega Cab?

No. In this generation the Mega Cab came with the 6 ft 4 in bed only, on a 160.5 in wheelbase. If you need an 8 ft bed with four doors, that is the Crew Cab on the 169 in wheelbase.

My 2016 tailgate opened on its own. Is that a parts problem?

It may be a recall. Power-locking tailgate latch and actuator failures on 2013-2018 trucks are covered by recall 19V-347, and 2015-2017 trucks also by 18V-486. Check your VIN for open recalls before buying replacement parts.
