Every 4x4 6.7L Cummins Ram in this generation uses the AAM 9.25 solid front axle, the same family Ram has run since 2003. The 2013 update brought a new frame, a wider and stronger front suspension and a front-axle disconnect, and the cover changed along the way. Per the listings, the 14-bolt cover runs through 2012 on the 3500 and through 2013 on the 2500, and the 12-bolt cover fits the 2013-and-later 3500 and 2014-and-later 2500.
Why owners replace the front cover
Finned aluminum covers add fluid capacity and cooling, and they are one of the documented upgrades for trucks that tow or run larger tires. Swapping the cover means draining the axle, so plan the job around a fluid service and have SAE 75W-90 or 75W-85 GL-5 synthetic on hand.

Fitment notes
Count the bolts on your current cover, or check by VIN. The listings' year ranges crowd together around the 2012-2014 changeover, so the bolt count is the surest check. 2WD trucks have no front differential and need nothing from this page. If you choose a BD Diesel pack, it includes a rear cover too, so confirm your rear axle by its tag. Chassis cabs need their own fitment check.
Frequently asked questions
Does my 2010-2018 Ram have a 12-bolt or 14-bolt front differential cover?
The 14-bolt cover is listed through 2012 on the 3500 and 2013 on the 2500; the 12-bolt cover is listed for the 2013-and-later 3500 and 2014-and-later 2500. The quickest proof is to count the bolts on the cover that is on the truck now.
Do I need new gear oil when I swap the front cover?
Yes. The axle drains when the cover comes off, so refill with SAE 75W-90 or 75W-85 GL-5 synthetic. Finned aluminum covers add capacity, so buy a little extra.
