2010-2018 Ram 6.7L Cummins Air Intake Accessories

These are the intake accessories for 2010-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks with the 6.7L Cummins: sensors, gaskets, couplers, clamps, filter wraps and emergency shutdown valves. The thing to know: pulling the intake horn on this engine means scraping off the old gasket, so order the gasket set with the job, not after it.

Intake accessories on the 2010-2018 RAM 6.7L Cummins

The big parts get the attention, but the small ones decide whether the job seals and whether the engine reads its air correctly. The 6.7L Cummins in the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty reads incoming air through a mass air flow sensor, an intake air temperature sensor and a temperature/manifold absolute pressure sensor, and it warms cold air with a grid heater in the manifold inlet. All of that lives in or around the intake path, so those parts show up here next to the gaskets, boots and clamps you need when the intake comes apart.

What fails and why

Two intake jobs on this platform send owners looking for small parts. The first is the grid heater. It draws about 225 amps, and its terminal fastener can loosen from arcing, heat and vibration and fall into cylinder 6. Failures are documented from 40,000 miles, and there is no recall. The second is the intake horn. Replacing it means unbolting the dipstick tube, charge boot, grid heater plug and fuel rail, then scraping the old gasket before the new plenum is torqued down. Either job is the time to have gaskets, couplers and clamps on hand.

If you own a 2013, there is one more item: NHTSA recall 13V-122 covered the engine cover over heat trapping. Run your VIN to see whether your truck is included and whether the work was done.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

Most of this page is stock replacement. Cummins genuine sensors and gasket kits and Mahle gasket sets are the factory-spec route, and they are what you want when the goal is to put the truck back the way it left the line. The upgrade side is smaller: silicone couplers and boot kits, a heavy-duty grid heater relay link, and sensor bungs for fabricated intake tubes. Filter care sits in between. The S&B cleaning and oil kit is maintenance for oiled cotton filters only; it does nothing for dry media.

What we carry

  • Sensors: the Cummins genuine IAT sensor and MAP sensor harness pigtail, MAF sensors from Alliant Power and XDP, and XDP ambient air temperature and TMAP sensors.
  • Gaskets: Mahle intake manifold gasket sets (including the master set), a throttle valve gasket, a cylinder head gasket set and head sets, plus Cummins upper engine gasket kits.
  • Couplers, boots and clamps: Mishimoto factory-fit boot kits, WCFab silicone boot and clamp kits, an S&B 4-inch silicone coupler with clamps, and BD Diesel high-torque hose clamps.
  • Filter care: S&B filter wraps and the Precision II cleaning and oil kit, a Banks Power pre-filter wrap, a Fleece water-resistant pre-filter, and a WCFab Outerwears air filter cover.
  • Grid heater and shutdown: the BD Killer Grid Heater upgrade kit, XDP's HD grid heater relay fusible link wire, and BD positive air shutdown valves and E-PAS emergency engine shutdowns.
  • Fabrication parts: G&R Diesel MAF and IAT bungs, sold single or as a set, and a PPE MAP sensor relocation spacer.

Fitment notes

Read the year range in every title. Several accessories split at the 2013 model year, the same place this generation's intakes and boost tubes split. Mishimoto boot kits and S&B filter wraps come in 2010-2012 and 2013-2018 versions, and one of the Cummins upper engine gasket kits is listed for 2013-2018 only. The XDP ambient air temperature sensor is listed for 2002-2010, so on this platform it covers only 2010 trucks. BD's E-PAS comes in a 2007.5-2009 version and a 2010-2018 version; you want the second. Chassis cabs need their own intake parts in many cases, so confirm chassis-cab fitment separately, and verify by VIN when in doubt.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need new gaskets when I pull the intake horn?

Plan on it. The horn job means unbolting the dipstick tube, charge boot, grid heater plug and fuel rail, then scraping the old gasket before the new plenum goes on and gets torqued. Have a Mahle intake manifold gasket set on the bench before you start.

What is the S&B cleaning and oil kit for?

It services oiled cotton air filters, the kind you wash and re-oil instead of replacing. It is not for dry media. The factory air filter interval on this engine is 30,000 miles or 24 months, which is a good baseline for checking yours.

What does a positive air shutdown do?

It is a valve that closes off intake air so you can stop the engine in an emergency. BD sells positive air shutdowns in 3-inch and 3.5-inch sizes, plus E-PAS kits made for specific years; the 2010-2018 E-PAS is the one for this truck.

What are MAF and IAT bungs?

They are fittings that give a sensor a mounting point in a fabricated intake tube. G&R Diesel makes them for the 2007.5-2018 6.7L, sold individually or as a matched IAT and MAF set.
