2007.5-2009 Dodge 6.7L Cummins Lighting

This page collects headlight and tail light assemblies for the 2007.5-2009 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins. The one thing to know before you order: the 2009 heavy-duty trucks stayed on the third-generation body, so a 2009 Ram 2500/3500 takes 2006-2009 HD lights, not the parts made for the 2009 Ram 1500.

Lighting on the 2007.5-2009 Ram 6.7L Cummins

The 6.7L Cummins showed up in the middle of the 2007 model year to replace the 5.9L, but the body around it carried over. These trucks were sold as the Dodge Ram, before Ram became its own brand for 2010, and they wear the third-generation HD sheet metal from the 2006 refresh. That is why lighting fitment follows body years, not engine years. The headlight housings are shared by the 2006-2009 Ram 2500/3500 and the 2006-2008 Ram 1500. The tail lights are shared by the 2007-2009 Ram 2500/3500 and the 2007-2008 Ram 1500. Nothing about the lamps is tied to the engine under the hood. What decides fitment is the model year and the fact that the truck is a 2500 or 3500.

What fails and why

The lamp housings on these trucks do not have a well-known failure pattern of their own. When the lights act up, many owners trace it to the electrical side instead. The usual suspects are the TIPM, the Totally Integrated Power Module under the hood that holds fuses and relays and can randomly drop power to components, and the brake light switch. Lights that cut out, or brake lights that stay lit with your foot off the pedal, point there first. Check those before you buy new housings to fix a dead lamp, because a new assembly will not cure a power problem upstream of it.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

Replacement lamps for the 2006-2009 HD body range from OE-type units that put the truck back the way it left the factory to crystal, LED and projector assemblies that change the look. Everything on this page sits on the upgrade side. These are complete housings built to take the place of the factory lamps, so the job is a housing swap rather than a bulb change. An upgrade makes sense when you want a different beam setup or a different look, or when you are replacing a damaged lamp anyway and would rather step up than buy the same part again. If you are doing the front, think about the rear at the same time so the finishes match.

What we carry

Every assembly in this collection comes from AlphaRex, in these headlight and tail light lines:

  • Pro-Series projector headlights in black, alpha-black and chrome.
  • Luxx-Series LED projector headlights in black, alpha-black and chrome.
  • Nova-Series LED projector headlights in black, matte black, gloss black and chrome.
  • Luxx-Series LED tail lights in black, black/red and alpha-black.

The Luxx-Series is the one line offered here for both ends of the truck, so it is the simple route to a matched set front and rear.

Fitment notes

Shop by the HD fitment. A 2009 Ram 1500 is a fourth-generation truck, and its lights do not fit a 2009 Ram 2500 or 3500. A 3500 dually uses the same tail light fitment as a single-rear-wheel truck, plus fender-mounted marker lights that are not part of the tail light assembly. The fitment here covers 2500 and 3500 pickups; if you have a 3500, 4500 or 5500 chassis cab, check the product fitment or call before ordering. When in doubt, verify by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Will these lights fit my 2009 Ram 2500?

Yes, as long as you shop the 2006-2009 HD fitment. The 2500 and 3500 stayed on the third-generation body through 2009, while the 1500 moved to a new body that year. Parts made for a 2009 Ram 1500 will not fit your truck.

Does the 6.7L Cummins change which lights fit?

No. The headlights are shared across 2006-2009 Ram 2500/3500 trucks and the 2006-2008 Ram 1500. The tail lights cross with the 2007-2008 Ram 1500. Model year and model decide fitment, not the engine.

My brake lights stay on. Do I need new tail lights?

Probably not. Owners of these trucks commonly trace brake lights stuck on to the brake light switch, and random light dropouts are often a TIPM problem. Sort out the electrical side first, then replace housings if you still want the upgrade.

What is the difference between the Pro, Luxx and Nova headlights?

All three are AlphaRex projector headlights. The Luxx-Series and Nova-Series are listed as LED projector assemblies, while the Pro-Series is listed as a projector headlight without the LED designation. Each comes in its own set of finishes, so pick the series for the lighting you want and the finish for the look.

Do I need anything extra for a dually?

The tail light assemblies follow the same 2007-2009 Ram 2500/3500 fitment. Dual-rear-wheel trucks also have fender-mounted marker lights, which are separate parts and are not part of a tail light assembly.
