A leveling kit raises the front of the truck a modest amount. Suspension builders who specialize in the third-generation Ram 2500 and 3500 consider about 3 inches up front with 3/4 to 1 inch in the rear the best all-around setup, and the stock control arms handle that much. The Daystar kits here are smaller steps, from 1 to 2 inches, for owners of a 5.9L Cummins Ram who want a milder change. Even a small level changes caster, so treat the alignment as part of the job, not an extra.
What changes when you level
Raising the front moves weight rearward and drops the rear about 1/2 inch, so plan the rear height along with the front. Stock shocks do not have the proper range of movement once the truck is lifted, and at around 3 inches, 2003-2009 trucks need longer sway-bar links. After any level, reset caster, with the cam adjusters set vertical for a 2 to 3 inch lift, and set total toe to 0.00 to 0.05 degrees. While the truck is on the rack, have the track bar checked too. With the engine running, a helper turns the steering wheel back and forth while someone watches both ends of the bar, and any visible bushing deflection is a serious issue.
What we carry
Daystar Products Comfort Ride leveling kits make up this collection. For 2WD trucks, the heights are the KC09102BK at 1 inch, the KC09103BK at 1.5 inches and the KC09100BK at 2 inches. For 4WD trucks, the KC09117BK is a 1 inch front leveling kit. Daystar lists them for 1994-2013 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins trucks, a range that takes in the 2003-2004 Ram.
Choosing a height
Pick the smallest kit that gets the stance you want. A 1 inch kit is the mildest change, and the 2 inch 2WD kit is the tallest here. If you want the full 3 inch front height that builders recommend, look at a lift kit instead, since the Daystar kits for this truck stop short of that. Remember that the rear drops a little when the front comes up, so measure both ends before and after the install.
Fitment notes
Drivetrain is the big one: the KC09102BK, KC09103BK and KC09100BK are listed for 2WD trucks, and the KC09117BK is listed for 4WD trucks. These kits are for the Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty trucks. Because the listings span 1994-2013, run the fitment checker on the product page or verify by VIN before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Which Daystar leveling kit fits my 2003-2004 Ram?
Start with drivetrain. 2WD trucks choose from the KC09102BK at 1 inch, the KC09103BK at 1.5 inches or the KC09100BK at 2 inches. 4WD trucks use the KC09117BK 1 inch front kit.
Will leveling the front change the rear ride height?
Yes, a little. Raising the front transfers weight rearward and drops the rear about 1/2 inch, so plan both ends together.
Do I need an alignment after installing a leveling kit?
Yes. Leveling changes caster. Reset it, with the cam adjusters vertical for a 2 to 3 inch lift, and set total toe to 0.00 to 0.05 degrees.
Do I need longer shocks or sway-bar links?
Once a truck is lifted, stock shocks lack the proper range of movement, and at around 3 inches of front lift, 2003-2009 trucks need longer sway-bar links. For the smaller Daystar kits, follow the kit instructions and call us if you are unsure.
