Unlock and interface hardware for the 1998.5-2002 RAM 5.9L Cummins
The 24-valve is the first Cummins that can be tuned electronically. The earlier 12-valve cannot. Tuning tools for it electronically control fueling and timing at the Bosch VP44 pump. An interface and unlock only open the door. The VP44 relies on supply fuel for cooling and lubrication, so the order of work stays the same: fuel pressure gauge, upgraded or relocated lift pump, then tuning.

Fitment notes
Standard-output and 2001-2002 High Output trucks use different pumps and injectors, so tune fitment differs between them. For a California-registered truck, confirm the CARB EO status of any tuning product first. Verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Is an interface enough to add power?
No. The interface connects the software to the truck; the calibration does the work. On this engine, fix fuel supply first, because a VP44 fed by a weak lift pump can fail soon after power is added.
How do I check for codes before I tune?
On 2000-2002 trucks, stored codes show on the odometer after three key cycles. 1998.5-1999 trucks need an OBD-II scan tool. Sort out existing faults before you change anything.
