Its Bosch P7100 injection pump is fully mechanical, and the engine will run with nothing but a wire to the fuel shutoff solenoid. Any change to how this engine fuels happens at the pump, in the hands of an injection pump shop, not through a cable.

Fitment notes

A 1998 Ram can be either engine. An inline P7100 pump with a shutoff solenoid on top means the 12-valve; a VP44 rotary pump with a wiring harness means the 24-valve. Electronic tuners, chips and OBD programmers are made for the 1998.5-2002 24-valve trucks, not for the 12-valve. For a street truck, any part that changes factory fueling should carry a CARB Executive Order number.
