Call or Text (352) 722-5295Tools for the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The 2020-2022 trucks are the back half of the fourth-generation Super Duty, an aluminum body on a fully boxed steel frame. 2020 brought the third-generation 6.7L Powerstroke and the TorqShift 10R140 10-speed, and most owner work on this truck is routine service. Routine is where the right tool earns its place in the box. The engine-mounted fuel filter sits on top of the engine on the left-hand side, while the frame-mounted conditioner module moves around depending on how the truck is configured. The 10R140 takes Motorcraft MERCON ULV and an FT-221 filter. The cooling system runs a 48-50% concentration, and Ford's chart lists Acustrip 3-way HD test kits for checking diesel coolant.
Where the right tool matters on this truck
Tools don't wear out the way parts do, so this section is about the jobs that stop you cold without the right piece. The first is the bed. Pickup bed bolts on the 2017-2022 Super Duty take a 24EP Torx Plus socket, the Snap-on SLEP240 or an equivalent, and they have to come out to install Ford's 5th-wheel and gooseneck prep crossmember. Plan the order of work, because a bed liner cannot be reinstalled once that crossmember is in. The second is diagnosis. Boost leaks, regen events, heat soak and sensor faults can make the 6.7L lug, feel lazy or hunt shifts, and those complaints get blamed on the transmission or the calibration. Verify boost and airflow before anyone opens the transmission or touches the calibration. A boost tester with an adapter for the turbo's compressor inlet lets you pressure-check the intake side instead of guessing. An OBD-II monitor is the other diagnostic add-on worth having, since it shows regen status, DEF and transmission temperature while you drive.
Driveway tools vs. shop equipment
Buy for the work you actually do. If you handle your own oil changes, grease the front end and keep fasteners clean, a dedicated oil filter socket, a right-angle grease gun adapter and a set of metric thread chasers cover it. Chasers clean up existing threads before you reinstall a fastener. If you do your own suspension work, a track bar bushing tool is built for that one job. If your truck tows and you want answers before you spend money on parts, a boost tester is the step up. A modular steel work bench and a tool tray are shop equipment, plain and simple: a solid surface for teardown and a place to keep small parts from walking off.

Fitment notes
Most tools fit by size or engine family rather than by exact truck, so read the fitment line in each title. The PPE socket covers the 6.7L Powerstroke from 2011 on. The CPS 1102F011 adapter is listed for 2011-2024 6.7L Powerstroke, and the S300/S400/S400R/S500 adapter is for trucks running one of those turbos. The SPE track bar tools span 2005-2025 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L trucks. The 24EP bed-bolt callout applies to 2017-2022 trucks; 2023 started the new fifth-generation Super Duty body and frame, so check before assuming a body-related tool carries forward. If you are unsure, verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
What socket removes the bed bolts on a 2020-2022 F-250 or F-350?
A 24EP Torx Plus socket. Ford's hitch prep instructions call out the Snap-on SLEP240 or an equivalent. Those bolts come out when you install the 5th-wheel and gooseneck prep crossmember, and once the crossmember is in, a bed liner cannot be reinstalled, so settle the liner question first.
My truck feels lazy and hunts gears while towing. Is it the transmission?
Not necessarily. Boost leaks, regen events, heat soak and sensor faults can all make the 6.7L lug, feel lazy or hunt shifts, and those symptoms get pinned on the 10R140 or the calibration. Pressure-test the intake side with a boost tester such as the Calibrated Power Solutions Stealth Boost Tester and its 6.7L inlet adapter, and watch regen status and transmission temperature on an OBD-II monitor before you spend money.
Where is the fuel filter on the 2020-2022 6.7L Powerstroke?
The engine-mounted filter is on top of the engine, on the left-hand side. The frame-mounted conditioner module location varies by truck configuration, so find it on your own truck before you buy anything for the job. Confirm filter part numbers by VIN.
How do I check coolant strength on this engine?
Ford's coolant chart lists Acustrip 3-way HD test kits for diesel coolant checks, and the target is a 48-50% concentration. Ford specifies Motorcraft Yellow coolant for 2020-and-later F-250 through F-550, so top off with the matching type. Remember the 6.7L also has a separate secondary cooling loop with its own reservoir.
Will the PPE oil filter socket fit my truck?
On a 2020-2022 6.7L Powerstroke, yes by its listing: the PPE 93mm billet aluminum socket is listed for 2011-2026 6.7L Powerstroke and for 2020-2025 6.6L Duramax. That makes it a handy one for a shop or household that runs both. Check the title against your truck before ordering.
