2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Intake Horns

Intake air horns, intake manifold kits and intake piping for the 2020-2022 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 with the 6.7L Powerstroke. This is where boosted air makes its last turn into the engine. The one thing to know: Ford switched to a composite two-piece lower intake manifold for 2020, so parts at this end of the system are year-specific.

Intake air horns on the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The 6.7L Powerstroke routes intake air differently than you might picture. Its reverse-flow heads take fresh, boosted air on the outside of each head and send exhaust toward the valley, where the turbo sits. That is why the cold-side charge pipe and the intake horn run outboard rather than down the valley. After the air leaves the air-to-water charge air cooler, it travels through the cold-side pipe and the horn, an elbow that turns it into the intake manifold. For 2020, Ford changed that manifold to a new composite two-piece lower design. As a result, the intake elbow, horn and manifold on your truck are 2020-and-later parts, not pieces shared with the 2017-2019 trucks.

What fails and why

The most common intake-side complaints on every 6.7L year are boost leaks at the charge-pipe couplers and cracked factory pipes, and the joints at this end of the system are part of that picture. A leak shows up as a hiss under boost, oily residue at a joint, low power, high EGTs or a P0299 underboost code. A smoke test of the charge-air system finds it fastest. Oil plays a part too. The crankcase ventilation carries oil mist into the charge air, and over miles and idle hours it leaves a film in the cold-side pipe and weeps from couplers. The MAP sensor on the 2020-and-later intake also collects soot over time, most often on high-mileage trucks.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

If you are chasing a leak, start with the coupler or boot, not the horn. Replace the hard parts when they are damaged or when you are already in there for other work. The kits here swap factory intake parts for aftermarket ones. The PPE Zilla kit covers both the intake manifold and the turbo inlet on 2020-2026 trucks. SPE Motorsport's S100397 is sold as an OE+ Performance Intake Manifold Kit, and the SPE Motorsport Intake Piping Kit replaces the intake piping. Pick by what you are replacing, then by fitment. If you are also changing the front of the system, see our cold air intakes.

What we carry

Couplers, clamps and intake manifold gaskets for this area are in the Air Intake Accessories collection for these trucks.

Fitment notes

Read the year range on every kit. Because the lower intake manifold changed for 2020, horn and manifold parts for a 2020-2022 truck are not the same as a 2017-2019 truck's. Some kits here are titled for long spans; the SPE parts are listed for 2011-2025 and 2011-2026. When a title covers both sides of the 2020 change, confirm that the listing's fitment includes 2020-2022 before you order. The PPE Zilla kit is listed for 2020-2026 only. Chassis-cab F-350 through F-600 trucks share the engine but are separate products, so check the listing for those too. Verify by VIN or call us if anything is unclear.

Frequently asked questions

What is the intake horn on a 6.7L Powerstroke?

It is the elbow that takes cooled, boosted air from the cold-side charge pipe and turns it into the intake manifold. On the 6.7L it sits outboard, along the side of the engine, because the reverse-flow heads take their air on the outside.

Will a 2017-2019 intake horn or manifold kit fit my 2021 F-250?

Do not assume it will. Ford introduced a composite two-piece lower intake manifold for 2020, so the horn and manifold parts on 2020-2022 trucks are 2020-and-later parts. Pick a kit that lists 2020-2022, or confirm the listing with us before you order.

Do I need a new intake horn to fix a boost leak?

Usually not. Most intake-side leaks on the 6.7L are at the charge-pipe couplers or a cracked factory pipe. Smoke test the system first so you know which joint is leaking before you buy parts.
