On the F-150 diesel, outside air goes through a factory airbox and a Motorcraft FA1883 panel filter, past the mass air flow (MAF) sensor, and into a single variable-geometry turbo. After the turbo it runs through an air-to-air charge-air cooler. The MAF measures the air coming in, and couplers and clamps like the ones on this page seal joints along the air path. If you install the S&B cold air intake, its kit includes a MAF extension harness and bracket that move the sensor down the intake tube, so which accessories you need depends on whether your truck is stock or running that intake.
What fails and why
Our research found no intercooler, charge-pipe or MAF failure pattern on 2018-2021 trucks in Ford, NHTSA or forum sources. The documented concern is filter neglect, and its symptoms are restricted MAF readings, reduced boost and soot. Ford's schedule is 30,000 miles in normal service and as required in dust. That's why a cleaning kit earns a spot next to the hard parts: if you run oiled cotton media, keeping it clean is the maintenance.

Fitment notes
The XDP XD1027 listing names 2018-2020 3.0L Power Stroke trucks along with 2017-2019 6.7L trucks, so a 2021 owner should confirm fitment before ordering. Couplers and clamps are chosen by size, so measure the pipe where the part goes. The 3.0L was an F-150-only engine, and 2021 trucks wear the new 14th-generation body, so check the year range on every listing or verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a new MAF sensor when I install a cold air intake?
Not by default. The S&B 75-5126 kit includes a MAF extension harness and bracket that relocate your sensor down the intake tube. Replace the sensor only if it has been diagnosed bad, and confirm the XDP listing covers your year.
What is the S&B Precision II kit for?
It cleans and re-oils S&B's cotton cleanable filter media. If you chose S&B's dry extendable filter instead, you don't need it. Either way, check the filter often if your truck runs dusty roads.
Does the S&B coupler come with clamps?
Yes, the 4-inch silicone coupler is sold with clamps. If you need a single replacement clamp, BD Diesel's high torque hose clamp is listed separately. Match the clamp size to the coupler and pipe you're working on.
