Custom tuning needs two things: a way to get the file into the PCM and, if the calibration has positions, a way to choose them. The HP Tuners MPVI4 is the laptop route. It plugs into the OBD-II port and talks to HP Tuners software on your computer. The HP Tuners RTD4 Southern Diesel Supply Edition is the handheld route, a device that loads a calibration file onto the truck. The SPE Motorsport switch and bracket handle the cab side. What to know before you flash
Three things. Compliance first: the sources behind this page found no CARB EO custom PCM calibration for 2017-2019 6.7L trucks, so check any custom file against your state's rules and keep the factory emissions systems in service. Second, the stock CP4.2 cannot hold rail pressure at long injector durations, so a file that asks for too much fuel drops rail pressure under load and sets P0087. Third, a flash resets the 6R140's adaptive shift strategy, and the truck shifts firm for several days while it relearns.

Fitment notes
The SPE bracket covers 1999-2022 and the SOFT switch covers 2011-2019, while calibrations are split at 2020, when the 6.7L and its transmission changed. Chassis cabs run their own 330 hp calibration, so confirm pickup or chassis cab, verify by VIN, and see the tuners page and the Powerstroke hub for more.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the MPVI4 or the RTD4?
It depends on how your calibration is delivered. The MPVI4 connects a laptop running HP Tuners software to the truck, and the RTD4 is a handheld that loads a file onto the truck. Call the shop before you order and we will help you figure out which one fits your setup.
Will the SPE 5-position switch fit my 2018 F-250?
Yes. SPE lists the plug-and-play SOFT switch for 2011-2019 6.7L Powerstroke trucks. It only changes something if your calibration is built with switchable positions, and the SPE bracket gives it a solid mounting spot.
