Suspension components on the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

Each part here replaces or adds to one piece of the factory layout. Up front on 4x4 trucks and every F-450, Ford used a solid monobeam axle located by radius arms and a track bar, with coil springs, a stabilizer bar and a steering damper. At the rear, the leaf pack has four leaves with the 6.75-foot box and six with the 8-foot box, damped by 1.38-inch gas shocks, and dually trucks carry a rear sway bar. That layout is the map for this section: shocks for both ends, track bar parts and a caster kit for the front axle, and traction bars and air springs for the rear. What wears and why

On 2017-2019 F-250 and F-350 4x4 trucks and all F-450 and F-550 models, a hit on an expansion joint above about 45 mph can start a sustained shake in the steering wheel. Ford's program 20N04 covers a redesigned steering linkage damper, but the track bar, radius arms, ball joints and tie-rod ends are the wear items behind the shake, and owners report the damper alone often does not hold. At the rear, Ford picks the spring pack by GVWR package, so heavy fifth-wheel, gooseneck or camper loads can leave the truck sagging, nose up, with headlight aim and braking affected.

Fitment notes

Read the years in each title. BD Diesel's 1032111 adjustable track bar is listed for 2017-2022, while its 1032110 bar lists 2005-2016 and 2022, so they are not the same fit. Wehrli's traction bar bracket kits are built for either the Dana M275 or the Dana M300 rear axle, and Ford's data also lists a Sterling 10.50 for this era, so read the axle tag or door-jamb code to know yours. Bilstein lists separate shocks for 2WD and 4WD and separate rears for the F-450 and F-550. Air Lift's 2017-2019 LoadLifter kit does not interchange with the 2011-2016 kit. Verify by VIN when a title leaves room for doubt.

Frequently asked questions

Should I replace the track bar or just its bushings?

It depends on what the inspection finds. SPE Motorsport sells a track bar bushing kit and a version that includes a removal tool, and BD Diesel sells a complete adjustable track bar. If the bar itself is sound and only the bushings are worn, a bushing kit is the smaller job. An adjustable bar adds length adjustment, which matters once the ride height has changed.

Do traction bars fit every 2017-2019 Super Duty rear axle?

No. Wehrli sells separate bracket kits for the Dana M275 and Dana M300 axles, and this era also used a Sterling 10.50. Read the axle tag or the door-jamb axle code before ordering brackets. The bars come in 60-inch and 68-inch kits, plus a universal 68-inch bar.

Which Bilstein shock is right for my truck?

Narrow it down by drivetrain, axle end and model. Front shocks differ between 2WD and 4WD because the front suspension is a different design, and the F-450 and F-550 have their own rear listings. After that, choose the series, B6 4600, B8 5100 or B8 5160, and check the year range on each listing.
