Call or Text (352) 722-5295Engine oil for the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The 6.7L Powerstroke takes 13.0 quarts with the filter, so four 1-gallon jugs covers a change with some left over for top-off. Ford's chart for 2012-2016 lists three grades: 10W-30 for normal use above 0 F, 5W-40 above -20 F for severe or heavy duty, towing and biodiesel, and 15W-40 above 20 F. If you run biodiesel, that alone counts as severe duty and calls for 5W-40.
Fuel dilution and drain intervals
Active DPF regeneration post-injects fuel, and some of it ends up in the crankcase. Up to 5% between changes is normal and over 7% is severe, and it's worst with idling and short trips. Ford allows 10,000 miles in normal service and 5,000 in severe service. The common recommendation for this engine is 5,000-mile changes, a Ford-spec 5W-40 when you tow or work the truck hard, and oil analysis to catch dilution early.

How to choose
Start with the grade Ford lists for your climate and duty, then read each product's listing for its API category and spec. A truck that tows or runs biodiesel belongs on 5W-40. This collection also carries oils that sit outside Ford's chart for this engine: the Hot Shot's ADRENALINE R-Series racing oils, which include 5W-20 and 20W-50 grades, and the Green Diamond 0W-20 light-duty diesel oil. For a daily-driven 2015-2016 6.7L, stay with the three grades Ford lists.
Frequently asked questions
Is 15W-40 okay in a 2015-2016 6.7L Powerstroke?
Yes, above 20 F. Ford's chart lists 15W-40 above 20 F, 10W-30 above 0 F for normal use, and 5W-40 above -20 F for severe duty, towing and biodiesel. Pick by the coldest mornings your truck starts in and how hard you work it.
How much oil does a 2015-2016 6.7L Powerstroke take?
The engine holds 13.0 quarts with the filter, a little over three gallons. Four 1-gallon jugs covers the change and leaves some for topping off between changes.
