Call or Text (352) 722-5295Air filters on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
From the factory, the 6.7L Powerstroke breathes through an enclosed airbox with a two-piece filter: a Motorcraft FA-1909 pre-filter and an FA-1902 main element on 2011-2016 trucks. Filtered air goes from there to the valley-mounted turbo, so whatever gets past the filter heads straight for the compressor. Trucks that run an aftermarket intake use that maker's element instead, and that is where most of this collection fits.
When to service and what goes wrong
Ford calls for the filter at 45,000 miles or as required, with more frequent checks for dusty use. A filter that is past due restricts airflow, and the signs include soot in the airbox and MAF-related codes. If you are chasing one of those codes, pull the filter before you buy a sensor.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
If the factory airbox is still on the truck, stay with a factory-style two-piece set and match it to the FA-1909 and FA-1902 pair. If you run an S&B intake, its KF-1050 replacement comes in oiled cotton rated at 99.26 percent efficiency or dry media rated at 99.66 percent. S&B rates its 75-5104 intake at 31.7 percent more airflow than stock with the oiled filter and 29.8 percent with the dry one. In plain terms, oiled cotton flows a little more and dry media catches a little more.
What we carry
S&B leads here with the KF-1050 and KF-1070 replacement filters plus WF-1062 and WF-1031 filter wraps. MAHLE offers the LX5224 air filter listed for 2011-2016 6.7L trucks. SPE Motorsport carries S100243 cold air intake replacement filters and an S100237 pre-filter sock. No Limit Fabrication has the NLRF cold air intake filter, and Banks Power has a pre-filter wrap for its Ram-Air filters. Still choosing the intake itself? See all of our intakes.
Fitment notes
Match the filter to the intake, not just the truck. Buy the element listed for your intake by brand and part number, and do not assume one brand's element fits another brand's housing or the factory airbox. Wraps and socks must match the filter they cover; the Banks wrap, for example, is made for Banks filter numbers 42158 and 42188. Many intake parts change for 2017 and newer Super Duty trucks, so check the years on each listing. Verify by VIN when in doubt.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I change the air filter on a 2015 or 2016 6.7L?
Ford's schedule says 45,000 miles or as required. Dusty work, gravel roads and farm use call for more frequent checks. Soot in the airbox or a MAF-related code is a sign the filter has gone too long.
Should I run an oiled cotton or a dry filter?
S&B offers its KF-1050 both ways. Oiled cotton is rated at 99.26 percent efficiency and flows slightly more; dry media is rated at 99.66 percent. If the truck sees heavy dust, the dry filter's higher efficiency is the safer pick.
What is a filter wrap or pre-filter sock?
It is an outer layer that slips over the main element as a pre-filter, catching larger debris before it reaches the filter. S&B, SPE Motorsport and Banks Power all list wraps or socks in this collection. Buy the one made for your filter's part number.
