Call or Text (352) 722-5295Air filters on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
Air enters an enclosed factory airbox, passes through the pre-filter and the main element, and runs straight to the turbo in the engine valley. On 2015-2016 pickups that turbo is the Garrett GT3788V single VGT, which replaced the 2011-2014 DualBoost unit. The filter set did not change with it. Ford lists the same two-piece set for all 2011-2016 trucks: Motorcraft FA-1909 pre-filter and FA-1902 element. That is why filters for this Powerstroke are catalogued 2011-2016.
When to change it
Ford's schedule calls for a new air filter at 45,000 miles or as required. On a truck that runs gravel roads, pastures or job sites, as required comes sooner, so check it more often. Signs a filter is overdue include high restriction, soot in the airbox and MAF-related codes.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
A factory-style filter keeps the stock airbox and Ford's service routine exactly as designed, and that is the right call for most work trucks. If you want more airflow, the compliant route is a complete enclosed intake, not a different filter in the stock box. One example for this truck is the S&B 75-5104, which carries CARB EO D-590-13 for the F-250 and F-350; there is no EO for the F-450. Browse intakes if that is where you are headed. A truck with that intake uses S&B's own KF-1050 element instead of a factory-style filter.
What we carry
This collection carries the Mahle LX5224 air filter, listed for 2011-2016 6.7L Powerstroke trucks. Read the product details to confirm which part of the factory two-piece set it replaces. If you are doing a full air-filter service, plan on both the pre-filter and the element.
Fitment notes
Factory-style filters fit the stock airbox only. If a previous owner installed an aftermarket intake, it takes that intake's own filter. 2017 and newer Super Duty trucks use different intake parts, so don't cross-shop a 2017 filter for your 2015 or 2016. Chassis-cab trucks should be checked by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I change the air filter on a 2015-2016 6.7L Powerstroke?
Ford's interval is 45,000 miles or as required. If the truck works in dust, check it more often. Restriction, soot in the airbox or MAF-related codes are signs it is already overdue.
Did the 2015 turbo change affect the air filter?
No. The 2015-2016 trucks got the Garrett GT3788V turbo, but Ford kept the FA-1909 pre-filter and FA-1902 element across 2011-2016. A filter listed for 2011-2016, like this Mahle, is catalogued for both halves of the generation.
