Call or Text (352) 722-5295Fuel lines on the 2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke
The 6.4L Powerstroke has two very different fuel circuits. On the low-pressure side, fuel runs from the tank to the HFCM on the driver-side frame rail, where the electric lift pump regulates to about 24 psi at the engine filter inlet. The high-pressure side starts at the gear-driven Siemens K16, which feeds one common rail per bank at up to 24,650 psi, and lines carry that fuel from the rails to the eight piezo injectors. The K16 and its injectors are unique to the 6.4L. Parts from the 6.0L's HEUI system and the 6.7L's Bosch pumps do not interchange, so high-pressure lines and fittings have to be matched to this engine or to the specific build they are going on.
What fails and why
High-pressure lines come into play on a 6.4L in two situations: a K16 contamination event or an injector job. When a K16 fails, it contaminates the rails, lines and injectors. Debris lodges in the lines and both rails, so they have to be replaced or flushed, and replacing the pump alone invites a repeat failure. Look upstream for the cause. A plugged water separator drain lets water through to the K16 and injectors, and a failing lift pump starves the K16 and is a listed trigger for its failure. Before you order parts after a failure, check the HFCM filter bowl: white crystalline residue points to diesel exhaust fluid in the fuel, and if it is there the entire system is condemned.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
For a stock truck coming back from a pump failure, a stock-replacement contamination kit is the straightforward route, and the XDP XD610 is listed for exactly that job on the 2008-2010 6.4L. Check the product page for what the kit includes. On an injector job, injector seal kits for this engine can include new fuel lines, so check the contents before ordering lines separately. The universal oversized lines and AN fittings on this page are build parts, not routine repair parts. The stock pump and injectors are adequate below about 700 rwhp; past that, the documented path is dual K16 pumps and larger injectors.
What we carry
- XDP: the XD610 Fuel System Contamination Kit, stock replacement, for the 2008-2010 6.4L.
- Dynomite Diesel: Dynomite Diesel universal high-pressure oversized injection lines, sold in multiple lengths.
- Exergy Performance: Exergy Performance fittings, including the 1-008-003 M14x1.5 three-way tee, the 1-018-043 M14x1.5 plug and nut (rail cap), and the 1-018-148 and 1-018-149 M12x1.5 high-flow supply fittings to -6AN and -8AN.
Fitment notes
Thread size is the fitment spec on fittings, and each Exergy title calls it out: M14x1.5 or M12x1.5. Exergy names the M12x1.5 AN adapters as CP3 supply fittings. The 6.4L runs a Siemens K16, not a CP3, so call us to confirm where a fitting will go before you order. The Dynomite lines are universal and sold by length, so measure your routing first. The XDP kit is listed for the 2008-2010 6.4L. For any hard part, verify by VIN with the fitment checker.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reuse my high-pressure lines after a K16 failure?
Not as they are. A failed K16 lodges debris in the high-pressure lines and both rails, so they have to be replaced or flushed. Skip that step and the new pump is exposed to the same contamination, which is why replacing the pump alone invites a repeat failure.
Do I need new lines when I replace injectors?
Check the seal kit first. Injector seal kits for the 6.4L can include new fuel lines, so you may already have them. The recommended approach is a complete remanufactured injector set with new seal kits, done once, rather than one injector at a time.
Are the Exergy fittings for a stock truck?
Generally not. They are individual tees, plugs and AN adapters for custom fuel plumbing. The stock K16 and injectors are adequate below about 700 rwhp, so a stock truck coming back from a failure needs clean lines and rails, not adapters. Call us before ordering so we can confirm the thread and where the fitting goes.
