Call or Text (352) 722-5295Radiators on the 2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke
Ford put a radiator in front of the 6.4L Powerstroke that was about 33 percent larger than the 6.0L's. That radiator has a lot to handle. The same coolant carries heat out of the oil cooler and two EGR coolers, which pull roughly 850 F out of the exhaust before it reaches the EGR valve. The system holds 7.66 gallons of Motorcraft Gold mixed 50/50 with distilled water.
What fails and why
The factory radiator leaks where the tanks are crimped to the core. Those crimps separate, and there is no repair option. Ford's Venturi-tee fix did not cure the seam leaks. Leaks on this system don't stay contained, either. Low coolant leads to overheating under load, especially on long grades and when towing, and running low also puts the front cover at risk of cavitation.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
The common fix is an all-aluminum radiator with welded tanks, paired with an upper support bar that keeps the core support from flexing. OEM-style replacements are here too if you would rather match factory construction. Whichever way you go, the recommended practice is to pressure-test the system, replace the degas cap and hoses, and verify the water pump works when the new radiator goes in.
What we carry
Mishimoto offers an aluminum performance radiator, a replacement radiator, the upper support bar, and radiator protection bundles in essential and heavy-duty versions. XDP has the Xtra Cool direct-fit replacement radiator, and CSF has an OEM-style replacement radiator. Mahle supplies the upper and lower radiator hose seal O-rings, so the hose connections get new seals along with the radiator.
Fitment notes
The 6.4L radiator is a 2008-2010 part, and 6.0L and 6.7L radiators do not interchange. The radiators here are listed for 2008-2010 trucks. The upper hose seal O-ring is the exception: Mahle lists it for 2008-2016 6.4L and 6.7L. This engine went in F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups, the F-450 pickup and F-450/F-550 chassis cabs. Verify by VIN or use the fitment checker on the product page before you order.
Frequently asked questions
Can I fix a leaking 6.4L radiator instead of replacing it?
No. The factory crimps between the tanks and the core separate, there is no repair option, and Ford's Venturi-tee fix did not cure the seam leaks. Replacement is the fix.
Do I need the upper support bar with an aluminum radiator?
The common recommendation pairs an all-aluminum, welded-tank radiator with an upper core-support or tie bar to stop flex. Mishimoto lists the support bar for this truck, so it can go in during the same job.
What else should I replace along with the radiator?
Pressure-test the system, replace the degas cap and hoses, and confirm the water pump is working. Fresh hose seal O-rings from Mahle make sense at the same time. Then refill with 7.66 gallons of Motorcraft Gold mixed 50/50 with distilled water, or a coolant that meets that spec.
