Ford put a filter minder on the 6.4L airbox, and that gauge is the factory trigger for replacing the air filter. Past the filter, the charge air runs at roughly 40 psi through a chain of boots and clamps between the compound turbos, the air-to-air intercooler and the intake manifold. Sensors along the way report airflow, intake air temperature, outside air temperature and manifold pressure to the engine computer. This collection is that supporting hardware: pre-filters, clamps and boot hardware, plus the sensors and gaskets that seal and monitor the intake.
What fails and why
Boots, couplers and clamps crack or blow off from heat and boost, and the heat-cycled hot side usually goes first. The wear is gradual. Watch for low boost, smoke, a sluggish throttle, a hiss under load or a P0299 code. Because a charge-air leak acts so much like a tired turbo, trucks with healthy turbos get misdiagnosed. A smoke test of the charge system finds the leak before you buy bigger parts, and a fresh boot and a clamp that holds may be all the truck needs.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
Mishimoto's factory-fit boots go back in the stock locations, one at a time or as a kit. BD Diesel's intercooler hose and clamp kit and high-torque hose clamps are for owners who want more clamping force at each joint. Sensors are a straight swap: the Alliant Power and XDP parts here are replacements for the factory sensor locations, and the job is getting an accurate reading back to the computer. MAHLE gasket sets are what you want on hand any time the intake manifold or throttle body comes off.

- Emergency shutdown: BD Diesel Positive Air Shutdown valves in 3-inch and 3.5-inch sizes and the BD E-PAS emergency engine shutdown.
Fitment notes
Several parts here cover more than one engine. The XDP XD1010 MAP sensor, the Alliant AP63462 intake air temperature sensor and the MAHLE G31817 gasket are listed for the 2003-2010 6.0L and 6.4L, and the Alliant AP63493 ambient sensor runs 2004.5-2014 across the 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L. Others, like the Alliant AP63475 and the XDP XD1046, are 6.4L only. Boot kits fit the 2008-2010 6.4L only. Positive Air Shutdown valves are listed by size, so measure before you order. Frequently asked questions
Do I need the whole boot kit or just one boot?
If one hot-side boot has split, the others have seen the same heat and boost. The Mishimoto factory-fit boot kit replaces the set at once, and the single cold-side upper, cold-side lower and hot-side lower boots are here if you only need one. Smoke-test first so you know which joints are leaking.
Why does a leaking boot feel like a bad turbo?
Both cost you boost. A cracked or blown-off boot gives you low boost, smoke, a sluggish throttle and sometimes a P0299 code, which is why charge-air leaks get misdiagnosed as turbo failure on the 6.4L. A smoke test separates the two.
What does a Positive Air Shutdown do?
It is a valve in the intake that closes off air to shut the engine down in an emergency. BD Diesel lists the E-PAS emergency engine shutdown for 2008-2010 Power Stroke trucks, and the Positive Air Shutdown valves come in 3-inch and 3.5-inch sizes.
