Call or Text (352) 722-5295Tools for the 2007.5-2010 Chevrolet LMM
The LMM is a 6.6L V8 with Bosch common-rail injection fed by a CP3 pump mounted in the engine valley. That CP3 both pulls fuel from the tank and pressurizes it; there is no factory electric lift pump, so fuel filter service is part of normal ownership. Oil capacity is 10 quarts with the filter. Air comes in through a water-cooled Garrett variable-vane turbo and an air-to-air intercooler, and power goes back through the Allison 1000 six-speed, the only transmission GM paired with the LMM in pickups. Most routine work on a Silverado HD touches one of those systems, which is why most of the tools on this page are Duramax-specific rather than generic.
Where these tools earn their keep
Tools don't fail the way parts do, but the jobs that need them follow this truck's known trouble spots. Pitman and idler arms on the 2001-2010 GM HD front end wear early and let the center link move, and replacing a pitman arm means pulling it off the steering box with a puller. The Allison is due for fluid and filters every 50,000 miles in normal use or 25,000 severe, and bigger transmission jobs mean disconnecting the transmission harness, which is what the PPE harness removal tool is for. Charge-air boot leaks are a known LMM-era pattern, and a boost tester that seals the turbo inlet and pressurizes the intake side finds them without guesswork. If you suspect the turbo vanes, check the VGT solenoid first: its coil should read 3.4-4.2 ohms at about 73 F.
Duramax-specific tools vs. general shop tools
Some of what's here only makes sense on a Duramax: the 107mm billet oil filter socket, the fuel filter adapter wrench, the water-in-fuel sensor wrenches, the pitman arm puller, the transmission harness removal tool, the crankshaft pin kit drill bit and the boost tester adapters. Others are general gear that any owner doing their own work will use: metric thread chasers, a right-angle grease gun adapter, a quick disconnect tool kit, an air line hose cutter, a silicone tool tray and modular steel work benches. If you're equipping a garage around your Silverado, start with the tools for the jobs you do most, filters and fluids, and add the specialty pieces when a repair calls for them.
What we carry
PPE supplies the 107mm billet aluminum engine oil filter socket, an oil filter hand wrench made for PPE engine oil filters, a water-in-filter (WIF) sensor wrench, the pitman arm puller and the transmission harness removal tool. XDP MFG adds the XD325 fuel filter adapter wrench, the XD128 WIF sensor wrench, the XD509 long-life cobalt steel drill bit for crankshaft pin kits, and thread cleaning chasers in M8x1.25, M12x1.5, M12x1.75 and M16x2.0. Calibrated Power Solutions makes the Stealth Boost Tester HD regulator, a compressor inlet adapter, a faceplate adapter and an inlet adapter for S300, S400, S400R and S500 turbos. Rounding it out are Wehrli Custom Fabrication modular steel work benches in 32 x 48, 32 x 72 and 32 x 90 in. sizes, the Merchant Automotive right-angle grease gun adapter and quick disconnect tool kit, an S&B flexible silicone tool tray and an Air Lift air line hose cutter.
Fitment notes
The Duramax-specific tools here are listed across several generations: 2001-2011 for the WIF sensor wrenches, 2001-2016 for the fuel filter adapter wrench, drill bit and compressor inlet adapter, 2004.5-2016 for the faceplate adapter, and 2001-2019 for the oil filter tools and transmission harness tool. All of those ranges include the 2007.5-2010 LMM Duramax in a WT, LT or LTZ Silverado. The pitman arm puller is listed for 2001-2010 only, which lines up with the new frame and control arms GM introduced for 2011. On the boost tester, a factory-turbo LMM starts with the compressor inlet adapter; the S300/S400/S400R/S500 adapter is for trucks running one of those turbo frames. Check the fitment checker on the product page when in doubt.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Stealth Boost Tester do on a Silverado HD?
It lets you pressurize the intake side of the engine with shop air through the HD regulator and an inlet adapter, so you can find leaks instead of guessing. Charge-air boot leaks are a known pattern on the LMM. You need the regulator plus the adapter that matches your turbo.
Do I need special tools for fuel filter service on the LMM?
They make it easier. The XDP XD325 fuel filter adapter wrench is listed for 2001-2016 Duramax trucks, and the PPE and XDP water-in-fuel sensor wrenches for 2001-2011. Because the CP3 pulls its own fuel from the tank with no factory lift pump, fuel filter changes are routine on this engine, and the right wrench makes them a cleaner job.
What should the VGT solenoid read when I test it?
The coil should read 3.4-4.2 ohms at about 73 F. A reading outside that range points at the solenoid. A reading inside it means look elsewhere; vane sticking is another known LMM-era turbo issue.
Will these tools work on my 2011 Silverado HD?
Many will. The oil filter tools and transmission harness tool are listed through 2019, the fuel filter wrench, drill bit and boost tester adapters through 2016, and the WIF sensor wrenches through 2011. The pitman arm puller is the one to skip: it is listed for 2001-2010, and GM changed the front frame and control arms for 2011.
