S&B 83-1001 Cold Side Intercooler Pipe (2017-2026 6.7L Powerstroke)

Fitment

Fits 2017-2026 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups with the 6.7L Powerstroke. S&B notes it also fits High Output trucks, so it covers 2023-2026 Standard Output and High Output engines alike.

Why this part

On 2017 and newer 6.7L trucks, the factory cold side charge tube is a known weak link. It can burst under pressure and leave the truck stranded, and tuned trucks and trucks that tow are more exposed. S&B notes the stock pipe is known to burst in modified or even stock trucks, so a leaking or burst cold side pipe is not only a tuned-truck problem.

When it lets go you usually get a sudden loss of boost, a loud hiss or whoosh, and limp mode. Smaller leaks at the couplers are harder to spot: hissing under boost, oily residue, low power, elevated EGTs and a P0299 underboost code. A smoke test of the charge-air system finds them fastest.

The S&B pipe is larger than stock at 3.50" diameter, in polished aluminum for better flow and less restriction. The 5-ply aramid-reinforced silicone hose is stronger than the factory hose and built to last for years to come. Heavy-duty spring-loaded T-bolt clamps with a 3/4" wide stainless-steel band and bridge hold it together.

When the old pipe comes off, expect some oil film inside it. Crankcase ventilation carries oil mist into the charge-air system, and it builds up with miles and idle hours. On 2017-2019 trucks an overdue CCV service makes it worse; that service is typically done at 30,000-40,000 miles.

Should I replace the hot side pipe at the same time?

If the hot side connection has been popping off the turbo outlet, it is worth doing both. S&B's hot side pipe for 2016-2022 and 2023-2026 Standard Output trucks is 83-2004; High Output trucks use 83-2005.
