Fitment

Built for 2013-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups with the 6.7L Cummins (more Cummins parts). The swing-gate Ram Active Air airbox this kit is designed around is unique to 2013 and later trucks, and intakes for this engine split between 2010-2012 and 2013-2018. If you have a 2010-2012 truck, S&B's 75-5092 is the listed intake for those years, not this one. Chassis cabs need their own intake versions on this engine, so if you run a Ram chassis cab, call us before ordering. Verify by VIN or call us with any question, and see our other intakes if this one is not a match.

Why this part

S&B took the factory Ram Active Air system and built on it to give your 6.7L increased airflow, efficiency and power. The kit uses the same motor that drives Ram Active Air to work its patent-pending swing gate, so you keep all the benefits of the stock system. Under normal driving, or in ice, snow and rain, the intake draws air from the wheel well inlet to protect against the elements. In extreme heat, under high loads or at high altitude, the swing gate pivots when the truck accelerates to full throttle and opens the ram-air duct mounted behind the front grille, feeding the engine cooler, less restrictive air.

An active monitoring light tells you when the ram-air gate is open. In S&B's testing, the ram-air inlet opened when outside temperatures were greater than 91°F and the truck was at full throttle. It stays open for approximately 3-5 miles or until the truck slows to close to 5 mph, and the process repeats. Ram-air activity varies with your driving conditions.

The stock system uses only one inlet at a time. This kit gives you the option of dual inlet airflow: remove the dam from the gate arm, and re-attach it when you want or to protect against bad weather. The gate arm stays active even with the dam removed, which prevents an Active Air Box code when both inlets are open.

At the filter, a full round inlet radius gives a smooth transition and makes room for a larger filter with more surface area, which S&B says means better airflow and filtration. S&B backs that with ISO 5011 filtration testing in its 1/2 million dollar lab. S&B also lists this intake as CARB-exempt under EO D-590-33 and street legal in all states, with 51.7-54.6% more airflow than stock depending on whether you run the cotton cleanable or the dry filter.

Installation notes

Installation Tech Tip: The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is installed in the intake tube of the air intake system. During installation of a cold air intake, the MAF must be removed and transferred over. Replacing a functioning MAF sensor is not necessary, but it is good practice to inspect, clean or replace the sensor if needed whenever it is removed. Once the kit is in, the dam on the gate arm can be removed for dual-inlet airflow and re-attached when the weather turns.
