Why this part
The battery sits in a hot engine bay and takes vibration every mile. The factory heat shield is there to deal with that, but OEM shields are known to decompose and delaminate. Once a shield comes apart, it is no longer doing its job.
PPE built this one for long-lasting protection in high-heat, high-vibration environments. The outer layer is a flexible, high-temperature-resistant silicone fiberglass rated for over 500°F. Under it is a non-woven fabric inner layer that protects against abrasion and keeps the shield flexible. The whole shield is non-conductive and non-flammable, which is what you want on a part that sits around a battery. PPE says it will not delaminate or become brittle, and it won't decompose over time.
