The PPE 124063000 is an all-aluminum bar and plate transmission cooler for 2011-2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD trucks with the 6.6L LML Duramax. Its 236 cubic-inch core is 75% bigger than the stock cooler. You buy it because heat is the number one contributor to transmission failures, and PPE rates it for up to a 40°F temperature drop.

Fitment

Fits 2011-2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD with the 6.6L LML Duramax and the Allison transmission. The LML engine ran through 2016, but this cooler is listed for 2011-2014 only, so verify fitment by VIN or call us. GM changed the front fascia and bumper opening for 2015, and front-end cooling parts like radiators and intercoolers can be body-year specific even though the engine is the same. The cooler retains all factory mounting points and comes with new 7/8-14 quick-connect fittings that work with the factory transmission cooler lines. Shop all Duramax parts.

Why this part

Excessive heat is the number one contributor to transmission failures. It causes clutch pack slipping, clunky shifting and fluid breakdown, and constant overheating can reduce transmission service life by 50% or more. On 2011-2014 trucks, 175-195°F is a normal transmission temperature and 205-215°F is normal when towing. Anything that stays above 220°F is a red flag, and 240°F is the max. The standard heat fixes are a deep pan and more cooler capacity, aimed at keeping towing temps under about 215°F.

PPE's answer is more core and a stronger build. The 236 cubic-inch core is 75% larger than the stock cooler, and the 27% larger frontal area puts more of it in the airflow. Dense, louvered external fins move heat into the ambient air, which is how PPE gets up to a 40°F temperature drop and keeps the transmission in its optimal range, even under demanding conditions. Bar and plate construction is a heavy-duty step up from the factory stacked-plate design, with more cooling mass and flow capacity. The all-aluminum build with fully TIG-welded end tanks adds pressure resistance and durability for performance use.

What you get

  • PPE 124063000 all-aluminum bar and plate transmission cooler with fully TIG-welded end tanks
  • New 7/8-14 quick-connect fittings that work with the factory transmission cooler lines

Specifications

  • 236 cubic-inch core volume, a 75% increase over the stock cooler for better heat dissipation
  • 27% larger frontal area for increased airflow exposure and maximized heat transfer
  • All-aluminum bar and plate construction for improved cooling capacity and pressure resistance
  • Fully TIG-welded end tanks enhance strength and durability
  • Delivers up to 40°F temperature drop, protecting against overheating and burnt clutches
  • Includes new quick-connect fittings that work with stock cooler lines
  • Retains all factory mounting points for a bolt-on installation
  • Includes new 7/8-14 quick-connect fittings that work with factory transmission cooler lines

Installation notes

This is a bolt-on swap. The PPE cooler retains all factory mounting points, and the included 7/8-14 quick-connect fittings work with the stock cooler lines, so the factory lines stay in place.

About PPE

Pacific Performance Engineering was founded in 1985 and is based in North Las Vegas, Nevada. PPE made its name on the 6.6L Duramax before expanding into Cummins and Powerstroke parts. Transmission hardware is a big part of the line: cast aluminum deep pans, deep-pan filters, performance mounts and bar-and-plate coolers like this one. Browse all PPE parts.

Frequently asked questions

Does this cooler fit a 2015 or 2016 LML?

It is listed for 2011-2014 only. GM redid the front fascia and bumper opening for 2015, and front-end cooling parts can be body-year specific. Verify fitment by VIN or call the shop before ordering for a 2015-2016 truck.

Do I need new transmission cooler lines?

No. The cooler includes new 7/8-14 quick-connect fittings that work with the factory transmission cooler lines, and it bolts to the factory mounting points.

How hot is too hot for my transmission?

On 2011-2014 trucks, 175-195°F is normal and 205-215°F is normal while towing. If it consistently runs above 220°F, find out why, and 240°F is the max. PPE rates this cooler for up to a 40°F temperature drop.
