The Mishimoto MMGH-F2D-98 kit gives you everything you need to replace the valve cover gaskets and glow plug harnesses on 1999-2003 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks with the 7.3L Powerstroke. Two connector repair pigtails are included for the engine wiring. Owners buy it when a hard cold start or brittle connectors point to a failing harness.
Fitment
Fits 1999-2003 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups with the 7.3L Powerstroke. It is a direct-fit replacement. The 2003 model year is split: the 7.3L ran through the early part of 2003 before the 6.0L took over. This kit is listed for the 7.3L, not the 6.0L, so check which engine your 2003 has and verify fitment by VIN. The 1999-2003 engine uses a single 9-pin connector at the valve cover gaskets, where the 1994-1997 engine uses dual 5-pin pass-through connectors, so this kit does not fit the older OBS trucks either. If you have a 7.3L Excursion, Super Duty chassis cab or E-Series van, send us the VIN before you order.
Why this part
On high-mileage 7.3L Super Duty pickups, glow plug harnesses frequently fail. Years of high glow plug amperage demand and high engine bay temperatures cause the plastic connectors to become brittle, which leads to circuit shorts. Many owners discover the harness was compromised during regular maintenance. For others, a hard cold start is the symptom that sends them looking.
The connectors under the valve covers degrade from heat and oil exposure on the 1999-2003 engine, just as they do on the 1994-1997. If you find a browned or melted connector at the valve cover gasket, heat has already done its damage.
The kit includes valve cover gaskets with built-in glow plug harnesses, so you replace all of the glow plug wiring in one pass, plus replacement pigtail connectors for repairing the damaged engine wiring. Frequently asked questions
My 2003 has a 6.0L. Will this fit?
It is not listed for it. This kit is for the 7.3L Powerstroke, which ran through the early part of the 2003 model year. The 6.0L that replaced it is a different engine. Check the engine in your truck, or send us the VIN, before you order.
The harness checks out but it still starts hard cold. What else is in the circuit?
The harness is one part of the glow plug circuit. On these trucks a relay switches glow plug power, except California trucks from 1999 on, which use a glow plug control module instead. Know which one your truck has before you start diagnosing or ordering parts, and call us if you want a second set of eyes on it.
Is the 1994-1997 kit the same?
No. The 1994-1997 engine uses dual 5-pin pass-through connectors and its own valve cover gaskets, while the 1999-2003 engine uses a single 9-pin connector. For an OBS truck, order the MMGH-F2D-94 kit, which comes with four pigtails instead of two.
