The Exergy Performance E04 20315 is a Sportsman CP3 high-pressure fuel pump built for reverse rotation. We list it for the 2001-2016 6.6L Duramax in Silverado and Sierra HD trucks: LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM and LML. It is a pump for a specific fuel-system setup, so you buy it when your build calls for a reverse-rotation CP3 and you want Exergy's Sportsman version.

Fitment

Our catalog lists this pump for the 6.6L Duramax in Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500/3500HD trucks:

  • 2001-2004 Duramax LB7
  • 2004.5-2005 Duramax LLY
  • 2006-2007 Duramax LBZ
  • 2007.5-2010 Duramax LMM
  • 2011-2016 Duramax LML

Exergy's product page for E04 20315 does not include a vehicle list, so the fitment above comes from our catalog. Rotation direction matters as much as the year: a reverse-rotation pump only belongs on a drive setup that turns it that way. Verify fitment by VIN and talk to us about your build before you order.

Why this part

A CP3 on these trucks has a hard life. On the LLY there is no factory lift pump, so the CP3 pulls its own fuel under vacuum. That wears the pump, works it harder on a tuned truck, and can let supply pressure drop under 4 psi and set P0087 under load. The LMM has no factory lift pump either, and its CP3 can struggle to keep up when the truck is towing or tuned.

A new pump is not always the fix, though. On the LBZ, CP3 failure is reported but uncommon. Low rail pressure there more often traces to a restricted filter, air getting in or a worn regulator, so rule out the supply side first and condemn the pump last. CP3s also do not swap freely across Duramax years. They are often listed separately for the LB7, the LLY and the 2006-2010 trucks, and a later CP3 on a 2001-2005 truck needs the regulator rescaled. Add reverse rotation to that, and this is a pump to confirm with us before you buy.

Whatever CP3 you run, feed it well. On the LMM, a frame-mounted lift pump with extra filtration extends CP3 and injector life and steadies supply under load, and a common owner rule of thumb there is to keep lift pump pressure to the CP3 at about 10 psi or less.

About Exergy Performance

Exergy Performance builds high-pressure common-rail parts for Duramax, Cummins and Power Stroke diesels. Its pump line covers CP3 and CP4.2 high-pressure pumps, Sportsman and reverse-rotation CP3s included, along with injectors, rails, rail pressure sensors and relief valves. Exergy CP3s are among the replacement and stroker pumps cataloged for the LMM, and Exergy is the brand we reach for when a truck needs more fuel on the high-pressure side.

Frequently asked questions

What does reverse rotation mean?

The pump is built to turn the opposite direction from a standard CP3. Rotation has to match the drive that turns the pump, so check your setup before you order. If you are not sure which one you need, call us.

Is this a stroker pump?

This is the Sportsman model. Exergy lists a separate Reverse Rotation 10mm Stroker CP3 under part number E04 20316, and we can help you decide which one fits your build and power goal.

Should I add a lift pump with it?

On the LLY and LMM there is no factory lift pump, and pulling fuel under vacuum is hard on a CP3, more so on a tuned truck. A frame-mounted lift pump with added filtration extends pump and injector life. We can spec one with the pump and install both.
