The Dynomite Diesel DDPISB is a new 24-valve injector set for the 1998.5-2002 5.9L Cummins in the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500. It comes in seven variants by DDP part number. Owners buy it to replace a tired set or to match injectors to their VP44, lift pump, tuning and power goal.

Fitment

Dodge Ram Cummins 98.5-02 24v: the 1998.5-2002 5.9L 24-valve Cummins in the Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500. The Cummins was offered only in the 2500 and 3500 in these years, never the Ram 1500. The 2003 truck moved to a common-rail fuel system, and 2003 fuel parts do not carry back to the 24-valve.

High Output (245 hp) and standard-output engines use different VP44 pump and injector calibrations, so check your VIN before ordering. Not for sale in California. Verify fitment by VIN or call us.

Why this part

The 24-valve uses a Bosch VP44 rotary pump that times and meters fuel to six mechanical injectors. There is no common rail on this engine. The VP44 is cooled and lubricated by its own supply fuel, so injectors on this truck always tie back to the lift pump. It needs at least 5-6 psi of supply pressure, and more is better; a starved VP44 can overheat, seize the rotor or scuff the distributor. The factory block-mounted lift pump is marginal and should be treated as a wear item.

Performance injectors for this engine are sold in steps, up through 100-150 hp sets, and larger injectors raise lift-pump demand, so the pump comes first. Whatever DDPISB variant you choose should be matched to pump capacity, tuning and the power goal. That is why we ask about your injection pump, lift pump and tuning before you pick one. About Dynomite Diesel Products

Frequently asked questions

Which DDPISB variant do I need?

That depends on your VP44, lift pump, tuning and what the truck does. Injectors should be matched to pump capacity, tuning and the power goal, and the High Output and standard-output engines use different injector calibrations. Call the shop with your VIN and current setup and we will help you choose between DDPISB-ECO, -50, -75, -100, -125, -150 and -SM.

Should I upgrade the lift pump first?

If you are going up in injector size, yes. Larger injectors raise lift-pump demand, and the VP44 needs at least 5-6 psi to stay cooled and lubricated. A frame-mounted lift pump system that moves the pump toward the tank and adds filtration and air separation is the standard upgrade over the block-mounted factory pump. Install a fuel pressure gauge first so you can see what the VP44 is getting.

Can I buy this injector set in California?

No. This set is listed as not for sale in California.
