Fitment

Fits 2017-2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/3500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD with the 6.6L L5P Duramax. The 6079 is listed for the 2017-2019 trucks only. GM redesigned the truck for 2020, including the hood, scoop and airbox, so do not assume a 2017-2019 part carries over to a 2020 or newer L5P. Verify fitment by VIN or call us before you buy.

Why this part

CSF's OEM+ line is for the owner who wants the factory fit with a stronger build. The 6079 uses cast aluminum end tanks for increased durability, reliability and burst pressure capability, and the whole cooler is 100% TIG welded. The core keeps an OEM-style tube-and-fin design that CSF builds to meet or exceed the performance of your factory intercooler. Because it retains factory-style mounting and dimensions, it hooks up to the OEM couplers, brackets and mounting points already on your truck.

While the cooler is out, look hard at the rest of the charge-air path. On the 2017-2019 L5P, the factory plastic intercooler return pipe and boots are known to crack or blow off, especially when towing heavy. When that happens you get a sudden loss of power, a loud whoosh, a P0299 underboost code and limp mode. Leaks at the plastic charge pipes, intercooler boots and T-bolt clamps can also mimic a failing turbo. A new cooler sitting on tired boots will not fix any of that, so check every boot and clamp before you button it back up.

Installation notes

The OEM+ series is designed as a drop-in replacement. The 6079 hooks up to your OEM components, including the couplers, brackets and mounting points, so there is no fabrication. The factory boots go back on, which makes install time the right time to inspect them and the clamps for cracks or wear.

Do I re-use my factory boots and brackets?

Yes. The 6079 is a drop-in that connects to your OEM couplers, brackets and mounting points. Inspect the boots while you are there. On the 2017-2019 L5P the plastic return pipe and boots are a known weak spot under heavy towing.

How is the OEM+ different from CSF's heavy-duty intercooler?

The OEM+ keeps an OE-style tube-and-fin core, upgrades the end tanks to cast aluminum and carries a 1-year warranty. CSF's heavy-duty line uses a bar-and-plate core with cast aluminum end tanks, is pressure tested at 120 psi and carries a 2-year limited warranty.
