The Bilstein 24-253161 is a B8 5100 Series front shock for 2011-2025 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD-3500HD trucks with the 6.6L Duramax, LML and L5P. It is a gas pressure monotube for trucks at stock height or up to 1.5 inches of front lift. You buy it for steady damping when you haul heavy and a good street ride when you don't.

Why this part
Bilstein built this B8 5100 specifically for the GM 2500HD/3500HD. It is a gas pressure monotube with a 46mm digressive piston and self-adjusting deflective disc valving. Bilstein says that gives the shock the damping for heavy hauling or occasional off-road use while keeping a good street ride. If your HD pulls a trailer during the week and drives the highway empty on the weekend, that is the balance you want up front.
The body is zinc-plated steel, which Bilstein uses for resistance to harsh off-road elements. It is a 46mm ID smooth body (non-coilover) with no reservoir, so there is no spring seat to set and nothing extra to mount. Use it at stock height or with up to 1.5 inches of front lift. If your front end sits higher than that, call us before you buy so we can match a shock to your measured height.
