BD Diesel 1060605 Valve Body Electronics Upgrade Kit (2000-2007 Cummins)

BD lists this kit for 2000-2007 Dodge Ram pickups with the 5.9L Cummins and the 47RE or 48RE automatic transmission. That takes in the later 24-valve trucks (2000-2002) and the 5.9L common-rail trucks (2003-2007). BD developed it specifically for the Dodge 47RE/48RE, so if your truck has a manual transmission, this is not your part. Our engine tags start at 1998.5, but the kit is listed from 2000, so verify fitment by VIN. Send us your VIN or call the shop if you are not sure which transmission you have.

Why this part

BD built this kit to fix one of the leading causes of failure in 47RE/48RE transmissions: the governor pressure transducer. The factory transducer is plastic, and BD describes the O.E. part as prone to intermittent malfunctions. Failed governor pressure transducers are more prevalent on performance transmissions that run higher line pressures.

The kit replaces that plastic transducer with a more rugged, reliable and durable metal unit that can handle higher transmission line pressures without failure. It also includes an electronic adapter to prevent over pressure codes, and it has a built-in temperature sensor for improved reliability.

The other half of the kit is a heavy duty Borg Warner governor pressure solenoid. It has a stronger motor and a stiffer armature spring, which prevents wild oscillations when line pressure is increased. It does not use a permanent magnet, so it will not attract metal contaminants in the oil. A larger diameter spool valve develops more force to prevent debris accumulation and gives it more flow capacity.

Do I need this if my 47RE is stock?

BD calls a failed governor pressure transducer one of the leading causes of 47RE/48RE failures, not only a problem on built transmissions.
