The ATS Aurora compound turbo upgrade replaces the factory single turbo (MOPAR 68444771AB) on 2019-2024 Ram 2500/3500 pickups with the 6.7L Cummins. It pairs a high-pressure VFR turbo with a 60mm or 64mm billet compressor wheel and an Aurora 6000 low-pressure turbo. You buy it for quick low-RPM response, strong top end and lower EGTs when the truck is working hard.

Fitment

ATS lists this kit for 2019-2024 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups with the 6.7L Cummins, as a replacement for the factory MOPAR 68444771AB turbo:

  • Make: RAM / Dodge
  • Model: 2500, 3500 Pickup
  • Years: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024
  • Engine: 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel
  • Replaces OEM Part: MOPAR 68444771AB

Chassis-cab trucks are not on the list. The 2025 and newer trucks got a new turbo, and 2019-2024 turbo parts should not be assumed to fit them. Before we order any turbo for this engine we check the sales code: ETM is the High Output engine and ETL is the Standard Output. Verify fitment by VIN or call us and we will do it with you. More parts for your engine are on our Cummins page.

This listing offers two versions: 202-963-2464 (Aurora 3000 VFR with the Aurora 6000, without the ATS Intelliboost controller) and 202-965-2464 (Aurora 4000 VFR with the Aurora 6000, without Intelliboost). Both are the versions ATS intends for trucks with custom tuning. ATS also builds 202-962-2464 and 202-964-2464, which include Intelliboost for trucks on factory tuning. Read the installation notes below before you order.

Why this part

The factory variable-geometry turbo on this engine has a known weak spot. Soot and oil coke the vane ring and pivots, so the exhaust brake fades first, then boost turns low or erratic, with black smoke, high EGTs and limp mode, commonly somewhere between 50,000 and 150,000 miles. The electronic actuator can also fail on its own, which takes the exhaust brake with it. If you are facing a turbo replacement anyway, or you want more from the truck than one turbo can give, this kit swaps the factory turbo for two new ones.

ATS has been building compound turbo systems since the early 2000s. In this kit the smaller VFR high-pressure turbo, with a 60mm or 64mm billet compressor wheel, sits in the factory location and gives immediate low-RPM response. The large Aurora 6000 low-pressure turbo mounts over it, which makes the most of the space and keeps airflow efficient, and it supplies the air volume for the top end. ATS says the result is a broad power band, lower EGTs and the reliability heavy-duty use calls for.

Power support depends on the high-pressure turbo. The 3000/6000 system supports up to 750hp / 1400ft lbs. The 4000/6000 system supports up to 900hp and 1750ft lbs. With two turbos sharing the work, the system can make boost pressures exceeding 60 PSI, and ATS strongly recommends head studs if you will run more than 45 PSI.

ATS also points to fuel economy. More air gives more complete combustion, and ATS says the denser oxygen charge reduces heat stress on the 6.7L, prolongs engine life and improves fuel efficiency during heavy hauls.

Heat is handled with coatings. The turbine housings on both turbos, the Vortex transfer manifold and the included ATS Pulse Flow exhaust manifold are finished in a high-temp black ceramic coating. It traps heat to drive the turbos more efficiently and is rated for substrate protection up to 1600°F and environmental protection up to 2000°F. Browse more options on our turbo page.

What you get

  • Two brand-new turbochargers
  • High-pressure turbo: Aurora 3000 VFR (60mm) or Aurora 4000 VFR (64mm) depending on version, with a new updated electronic actuator, mounted in the factory location
  • Aurora 6000 atmospheric (low-pressure) turbo: 75mm compressor wheel inducer, 88mm turbine wheel inducer, 1.10 A/R and a large T-4 turbo flange
  • Vortex exhaust transfer manifold, built for a compact footprint and smooth exhaust gas travel between the turbos
  • ATS Pulse Flow 6.7L exhaust manifold, ceramic coated, with gaskets and 12.9 grade hardware for clamping force
  • New exhaust downpipe for the Aurora 6000
  • Oil feed and drain lines in stainless steel braided crimp line with steel AN fittings
  • ATS aluminum coolant reservoir designed for the factory location, which clears room for the Aurora 6000 and its plumbing
  • All-new A/C line that routes around the large turbo without bending the factory lines
  • ATS T4 turbo blanket for the Aurora 6000, rated for 2500°F peak and 1800°F sustained heat
  • Reinforced silicone boots for the high-pressure connections
  • Every nut, bolt, washer, hose clamp and gasket
  • ATS Intelliboost controller on 202-962-2464 and 202-964-2464 only; not included on 202-963-2464 or 202-965-2464

Installation notes

Choose the version by how the truck is tuned. The ATS Intelliboost controller is what lets the truck recognize and use the added airflow without triggering diagnostic errors or derate modes.

  • Factory calibration: if the truck runs the factory Dodge/RAM tuning, ATS says you must use the kit with the Intelliboost electronics. The controller handles the airflow calibration in real time so the ECM stays happy with the compound turbo volume.
  • Third-party custom tuning: if the truck has already been professionally tuned with third-party software that specifically accounts for compound turbo airflow, the calibration is already handled, and the kit without electronics is the one to use. That is the setup the two versions on this listing are built for.

We have not found a CARB Executive Order for any compound turbo kit on the 2019-2024 6.7L, so check your state's rules before you order.

ATS packs the kit so it goes on once. Every nut, bolt, washer, hose clamp, reinforced silicone boot and gasket is included, the coolant reservoir and A/C line are already worked out around the big turbo, and the oil feed and drain lines use stainless braided crimp line with steel AN fittings. If you would rather we do the work, we install it in the shop.

About ATS Diesel Performance

ATS Diesel Performance has been building diesel parts in Arvada, Colorado since 1993. The company is best known for transmission packages and torque converters for Cummins, Duramax and Power Stroke trucks, and it backs that with Aurora turbochargers, exhaust manifolds and compound turbo systems for the 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins.

Frequently asked questions

Which version do I need?

It comes down to tuning. On factory Dodge/RAM tuning, ATS says you must use a kit with the Intelliboost controller (202-962-2464 or 202-964-2464). The versions on this listing, 202-963-2464 and 202-965-2464, leave the controller out and are meant for trucks already custom tuned for compound turbo airflow. Call us if you are not sure which you have.

Do I need head studs?

ATS strongly recommends head studs if you will run more than 45 PSI of boost. This system can make more than 60 PSI, so if you plan to use what it can do, plan on studs too.

Will it fit a 2025 Ram?

No. This kit is listed for 2019-2024 pickups only. The 2025 truck uses a new turbo, and 2019-2024 turbo parts should not be assumed to fit it.
