The AirDog II-5G A7SABC510 (DF-165-5G) is a 165 GPH air/fuel separation system for the 6.6L LML Duramax in 2011-2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD pickups, with 2015-2016 trucks fitting when using a sump. The LML has no factory lift pump, so the job here is simple: feed the CP4.2 injection pump clean, air-free fuel under positive pressure.

Fitment

Built for the 6.6L LML Duramax in Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/3500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD pickups. AirDog lists this kit for 2011-2014 trucks in moderate to extreme use and notes that it fits 2015-2016 trucks if you are using a sump. That note matters because some LML tanks feed a lift pump through a draw straw and others through a sump, and the pickup changes how the suction line is routed. Pickups run a single 36-gallon tank; confirm your tank setup before you order. The LML was never offered in a 1500, so this kit is for heavy-duty pickups only. Verify fitment by VIN, or call us with yours.

Why this part

The LML is the only Duramax with the Bosch CP4.2 injection pump, and that pump is the truck's known weak spot. When the fuel film inside it thins, from water, air drawn in from a low tank or a suction leak, or low-lubricity fuel, the cam and roller scuff and the pump starts making metal. That metal contaminates the entire high-pressure system. Failures are reported on roughly 5-10% of LMLs, as early as 30,000 miles and around 100,000 on average. When the pump goes, debris lodges in the piezo injectors, and the repair is all eight injectors plus the rails and lines.

A lift pump with filtration is the standard protection. A system in the AirDog II-5G class supplies the CP4.2 with positive, de-aerated fuel. AirDog's patented air separation, together with a water separator and fuel filter, makes sure the expensive parts of your injection system get clean fuel. AirDog says pulling the air out also stops spray-pattern disruption at the injectors, so the engine keeps its designed injection timing and burns its fuel more completely, which raises efficiency across the power and torque range. It also helps overcome the power loss you can see with the factory fuel supply, especially at higher altitude.

The II-5G is AirDog's fifth-generation design, and AirDog says it was the first diesel fuel air separation system with an integrated diaphragm fuel pressure regulator. The regulator gives you more fuel pressure adjustability and better fuel flow at pressure, and it can be boost compensated. The motor uses the same 4G technology that proved itself reliable and quiet, and the system keeps AirDog's Demand Flow design: whatever fuel the injection system does not use is recirculated back through the filter base. A low flow return reduces aeration, and the ports are larger than on previous pumps.

The wiring is upgraded on every 5G system. The harness runs 12-gauge wire from the battery all the way to the internal connections in the motor. A Metri-Pack 280 connector replaces the Deutsch 2-pin connector, allowing more current flow without creating excessive heat, and every other connector in the harness is a weather pack to keep the elements out.

About AirDog

AirDog started in the early 1990s as PureFlow Technologies in Jefferson City, Missouri, building fuel air separation systems for diesel engines; the pickup-truck version took the AirDog name in 2002. Since 2009 the pumps have been built by PureFlow AirDog in Shelbyville, Indiana. The current line covers fuel air separation systems, Raptor lift pumps and replacement filters for Cummins, Duramax and Powerstroke trucks.

Frequently asked questions

Will this fit my 2016 LML?

AirDog lists this kit for 2011-2014 LML trucks and notes it fits 2015-2016 if you are using a sump. Some LML tanks use a draw straw and others a sump, which changes how the suction line is routed, so confirm your tank setup or send us your VIN before you order.

Does it need to be primed before the first start?

Yes. A lift pump on the LML must be primed before the first start. After that, keep the tank above a quarter. The LML fuel level sender is known to read wrong, which lets owners run lower than they think and lets the CP4.2 pull in air.

What warranty does it carry?

The A7SABC510 is covered by AirDog's Lifetime Limited Warranty.
