Call or Text (352) 722-5295Lift pumps on the 2019-2024 RAM 6.7L Cummins
Fuel on the fifth-generation Ram HD starts in the tank. The factory electric lift pump primes when you turn the key to run, then pushes fuel through a frame-mounted water separator (Mopar 68436631AA, new for 2019) and an engine-mounted 3-micron NanoNet filter (68157291AA) on its way to the high-pressure pump. That pump is a CP4.2 on 2019-2020 trucks and a CP3 from the factory on 2021-2024, and rail pressure tops out at 29,000 psi on every year of this Cummins generation. The sending unit lives inside the tank, at the very start of that path.
What to know before you open the tank
The well-documented trouble on this fuel system is the high-pressure pump, and it reaches back into the tank. A failing CP4.2 on a 2019-2020 truck sheds metal into the rail, injectors, lines and tank. Warning signs include ticking, loss of power, a stall or no-start, and metal in the fuel filter. Recall 21V-880 (Y78) replaced the CP4 with a CP3, reflashed the PCM and inspected the fuel system. Some owners report misfires and rough running after that retrofit, and contamination left in the system is the usual suspect. If your truck ever had a pump failure, assume the in-tank parts saw that metal.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
Owners go one of two ways. Some keep the factory in-tank pump layout and replace parts as needed. Others add a frame-mounted lift pump and filtration system built for the 2019-2024 Ram 6.7L, which steadies supply pressure and adds water and air separation ahead of the CP3 or CP4. The sending unit you choose has to suit the route you're on, so read each listing's description for what it is designed to work with. What we carry
This collection is built around Fleece Performance Engineering SureFlo sending units, each matched to a specific tank:
- FPE-SF-CUMM-1121 SureFlo sending unit, listed for 2011-2024 6.7L Cummins trucks.
- FPE-SF-CUMM-2024-50 SureFlo sending unit for trucks with the 50-gallon factory fuel tank, listed for 2020-2024.
- FPE-SF-CUMM-1124-CCOA SureFlo Performance sending unit for cab and chassis trucks with the 52-gallon tank.
- FPE-SF-CUMM-1124-CCMS SureFlo Performance sending unit for cab and chassis trucks with the 22-gallon tank.
Fitment notes
Tank size decides the part. Crew cab short-bed Cummins trucks carry a 31-gallon factory tank, other cab and bed combinations vary, and some 2020-2024 trucks have the 50-gallon factory tank. Chassis cabs share the engine family but come with their own tank sizes, which is why Fleece lists separate parts for the 52- and 22-gallon versions. On a 2019 or 2020, confirm whether the truck still has the CP4.2 or got the CP3 under Y78, because fuel-system parts must match what is actually installed. Verify tank size by VIN before you order.
Frequently asked questions
Does the sending unit change between a 2019 and a 2024?
Year matters less than the tank. FPE-SF-CUMM-1121 is listed for 2011-2024, the -2024-50 version is for 2020-2024 trucks with the 50-gallon factory tank, and the chassis cab versions split by 52- and 22-gallon tanks. Match your tank first, then confirm by VIN.
My 2020 had the CP4 recall done. Does that affect the tank?
The Y78 retrofit installed a CP3, reflashed the PCM and inspected the fuel system. A CP4 that actually failed sheds metal into the tank as well as the rail, injectors and lines, so if yours failed, inspect anything in the tank while it's open. If Y78 was never done on a 2019-2020 truck, get it done first; it's free at the dealer.
How do I prime the system after a filter change?
The in-tank lift pump primes when the key is turned to run, so cycle the key to prime after filter service; it protects the pump. Both filters, the engine-mounted 68157291AA and the frame-mounted 68436631AA water separator, run on a 15,000-mile or 12-month interval. Drain the separator routinely and look for metal at every change.
Will a new sending unit stop a CP4 from failing?
No. Nothing in the tank changes what happens inside the pump. On 2019-2020 trucks the factory remedy was the Y78 conversion to a CP3, and a lubricity additive at every fill, compatible with the DPF and SCR, is the standard preventive step on CP4 trucks and harmless on a CP3.
