Call or Text (352) 722-5295Air filters on the 2019-2024 Ram 6.7L Cummins
The factory system pulls air through functional hood scoops into a front airbox with a ram-air scoop. A panel filter sits in that box, and clean air runs from there through an S-shaped plastic snorkel to the Holset turbo on the 6.7L Cummins. Diesel Hub lists the filter interval as 30,000 miles or 24 months, and sooner if the truck works in dust. If you've put an aftermarket intake on the truck, the filter belongs to that intake, and the replacement has to match its housing and inlet size.
What fails and why
Filters don't fail so much as cause other problems. Ram TSB 09-003-26 (February 2026) covers P0299 turbo underboost on 2019-2024 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks with the 6.7L. The repair calls for a PCM update, the wiTECH Air Handling Test on 2023-2024 trucks, and a new Mopar 68645327AA air filter. Symptoms are reduced power and slow spool, and the code can turn up at any mileage after a filter change.
The other risk is dust. A filter that doesn't seal in its housing lets unfiltered air reach the turbo, and dusted compressor wheels with chipped fins are a common reason a used turbo gets scrapped. Signs include a whine, oil in the intake and lost boost.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
On a stock airbox, Ram's bulletin is clear about the part: Mopar 68645327AA. On an aftermarket intake, you buy the element made for that intake. Then decide how you want to maintain it. Dry filters skip the oil. Oiled filters get cleaned and re-oiled, and S&B's Precision II cleaning and oil kit is in our intake accessories for that job. A filter wrap like S&B's WF-1065 slips over the element as an extra outer layer. Whatever you run, check that it seats and seals before you close the housing.
What we carry
S&B KF-1080 replacement air filter and WF-1065 filter wrap, both listed for 2019-2024 6.7L Cummins. Banks Power 42259 air filter element, listed for 6.6L Duramax and 6.7L Cummins. Wehrli Custom Fabrication (WCFab) WCF100719 dry air filter with a 5-in inlet. Check each listing for the intake or housing it fits, and match it to what's on your truck.
Fitment notes
The S&B filter and wrap are listed for 2019-2024 6.7L Cummins. The Banks element is listed for both 6.6L Duramax and 6.7L Cummins applications, so confirm it matches the intake housing on your truck. The WCFab filter is identified by its 5-in inlet; measure your inlet before ordering. Trucks still on the factory airbox should follow the TSB part number. The 2025 refresh changed the engine's intake side, so don't assume a 2019-2024 filter fits 2025+. Verify by VIN with the fitment checker on each product page.
Frequently asked questions
Which air filter does Ram specify for a 2019-2024 6.7L Cummins?
Ram TSB 09-003-26 names Mopar 68645327AA for 2019-2024 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks with the 6.7L. If you run an aftermarket intake, use that intake's replacement element instead and make sure it seals.
Can the air filter cause a P0299 code?
On these trucks it is part of Ram's fix. The 2019+ computer is very sensitive to filter restriction, and TSB 09-003-26 for P0299 pairs a PCM update with a new Mopar 68645327AA filter, plus the wiTECH Air Handling Test on 2023-2024 trucks. Reduced power and slow spool after a filter change are the typical complaints.
How often should I change the air filter?
Diesel Hub lists 30,000 miles or 24 months for the 2019-2024 6.7L, and sooner when the truck works in dust. Check that the new element seals in its housing every time.
Does a poorly sealed filter hurt the turbo?
It can. Unfiltered air that slips past a bad seal can chip the compressor fins, and dusted compressor wheels are a common reason used turbos get scrapped. A whine, oil in the intake and lost boost are the signs.
