2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel Custom Tuning

Custom tuning parts for the 2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel, built around the HP Tuners MPVI4 interface. Here is the catch on this engine: we found no CARB-exempt ECM flash tune for the EcoDiesel, so custom flash tuning is not a compliant option we list. On this truck the MPVI4 earns its place as a scanning and data-logging tool.

What custom tuning means on the 2018-2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

On some diesel platforms, custom tuning means a calibration written for one truck and flashed to the ECM. The EcoDiesel does not fit that pattern. Every year carries cooled EGR, a DPF with active regeneration and SCR with DEF, and the 2020-2023 engine adds a low-pressure EGR loop that draws exhaust after the DPF. The one power product with a verified CARB Executive Order is the Banks Derringer (EO D-161-169), an inline module that works through the OBD-II port and the sensor harness with no ECM reflash.

The closest compliant thing to a custom tune

If what you want from custom tuning is a calibration that responds to how you drive, the Derringer's AutoRate does that inside its EO. It adjusts the calibration in real time from throttle position, rpm, coolant temperature and exhaust gas temperature. The kit for the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic and 2020-2023 trucks gives you six selectable levels about 10 hp apart, up to 57 hp and 73 lb-ft at Level 6. The 2018 Ram 1500 takes a different kit with six levels of roughly 8 hp each, up to 40 hp and 63 lb-ft. Whatever level you run, keep the emissions system fully functional and keep an eye on DPF regeneration and DEF level.

What we carry

This collection carries the HP Tuners MPVI4, the interface that links a laptop running HP Tuners' VCM Suite to the truck's OBD-II port. On the EcoDiesel, use it to read what the engine is doing and log it over a drive, within whatever HP Tuners supports for your model year. Check HP Tuners' vehicle-support list before you order, since the 2018-2019 and 2020-2023 trucks run different engine generations. See the full tuners collection for other platforms.

Fitment notes

The 2018 Ram 1500 and 2019 Ram 1500 Classic run the second-generation engine at 240 hp and 420 lb-ft; 2020-2023 trucks run the third-generation engine at 260 hp and 480 lb-ft. This engine was built for the Ram 1500 only. Banks splits its Derringer kits at model year 2018/2019, so a 2019 Classic takes the later kit. Verify by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a 50-state-legal custom tune for my EcoDiesel?

We have not found one. No CARB-exempt ECM flash tune for the EcoDiesel turned up in the sources we checked. The compliant way to add power is the Banks Derringer under CARB EO D-161-169, which adjusts fueling and boost without reflashing the ECM.

What does AutoRate actually adjust?

Banks says AutoRate changes the Derringer's calibration in real time based on throttle position, rpm, coolant temperature and exhaust gas temperature. On the kit for 2019 Classic and 2020-2023 trucks, it works across six selectable levels about 10 hp apart.

Why buy an MPVI4 for an EcoDiesel if you are not flashing it?

Because data beats guessing. Where HP Tuners supports your model year, the MPVI4 lets you watch and record what the engine is doing, so you and the shop make decisions with real numbers. Confirm that support before you buy.
