2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel Towing Air Bags

Air Lift compressors, controllers and upgrade parts for the 2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel. This is the control side of a rear air helper spring setup. Look at your rear suspension before you order: helper springs belong on the coil-sprung rear, and trucks with Ram's factory four-corner air suspension already level themselves and do not take coil-spring helper kits.

Air springs and compressors on the 2018-2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

The Ram 1500 uses a five-link rear suspension. On a truck without factory air suspension that means coil springs, and coils squat when a heavy tongue weight lands on the hitch. Air helper springs are the conventional way to control that squat. Some trucks left the factory with Ram's optional four-corner air suspension instead, which self-levels under tongue weight on its own. Those trucks are not candidates for the parts on this page.

The loads are real on this engine. The 2020-2023 EcoDiesel carries a best-case trailer rating of 12,560 lb when properly equipped, and the DT platform tops out at 2,300 lb of payload. Tongue weight counts against payload, so a heavy trailer uses up a good share of it.

Why pressure control matters

Air helper springs only work at the pressure you put in them, and the right pressure changes every time the load does. The parts here put that adjustment on the truck. A load controller mounts a compressor and controls so you can add or drop pressure without hunting for an air hose. A wireless system does the same job without a dash panel. Tank versions add an air tank so the system has stored air to fill from.

Single, dual or wireless

The 25592 Single Load Controller II runs both springs as one circuit, which is simple and fine when the load is even side to side. The 25856 Heavy Duty Dual Load Controller runs two circuits, so you can set each side on its own when the bed load is heavier on one side. The WirelessONE systems (25980 and 25980EZ) and the WirelessAIR system (74000EZ) go wireless, and several come in versions with Air Lift's EZ Mount. If your Air Lift system is already installed and only the pump needs replacing, the 16192 replacement on-board compressor is the part, not a whole new kit.

What we carry

Everything in this collection comes from Air Lift:

  • WirelessONE compressor systems (25980, 25980EZ) and the WirelessAIR compressor system (74000EZ)

  • Load controllers: 25592 Single Load Controller II and 25856 Heavy Duty Dual Load Controller
  • 16192 replacement on-board air compressor
  • 52420 2-inch and 52440 4-inch air spring spacers
  • 52300 LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus stainless steel upgrade

Fitment notes

These parts assume a coil-sprung rear with air helper springs. If your truck has factory four-corner air suspension, it already self-levels and does not take coil-spring helper kits, so this page is not for it. The 2018 Ram 1500 and 2019 Ram 1500 Classic use the DS body, and 2020-2023 trucks use the DT body; check each listing's fitment against yours. Air spring spacers come in 2-inch and 4-inch heights, so match the spacer to what your helper spring kit calls for. The 52300 stainless upgrade is for LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus kits. Verify by VIN when in doubt.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add helper springs to a Ram 1500 with factory air suspension?

No. Trucks with Ram's four-corner air suspension already level automatically under tongue weight and do not take coil-spring helper kits. The compressors and controllers here are for coil-sprung trucks running air helper springs.

Should I buy a single or dual load controller?

A single controller like the 25592 inflates both springs together, which is simple and fine when the load is even side to side. A dual controller like the 25856 lets you set left and right separately, which helps when the bed load is heavier on one side. Both let you adjust pressure without a trip to an air hose.

Will air springs raise my EcoDiesel's tow rating?

No. Ram sets the rating, and it depends on cab, drive and axle, with 12,560 lb as the best case for a properly equipped 2020-2023 EcoDiesel. Air helper springs control squat under tongue weight. They do not change the published number.

Do I need a compressor to run helper springs?

Not strictly. Helper springs can be aired up from any shop air source. A compressor system earns its keep when you change loads often, because it lets you adjust pressure on the spot instead of finding an air hose first.
