2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel Running Boards & Steps

AMP Research PowerStep running boards for the 2018-2023 Ram 1500 with the 3.0L EcoDiesel. A running board fits the body and cab, not the engine, so the diesel under the hood does not decide what fits. What does is which Ram 1500 body you have, DS or DT, and which cab, so pin those down before you choose a step.

Running boards on the 2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel

Your years span two different trucks. The 2018 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic are the fourth-generation DS body. It came as a Regular Cab with a 6-foot-4 or 8-foot bed, a Quad Cab with a 6-foot-4 bed, or a Crew Cab with a 5-foot-7 or 6-foot-4 bed. The 2020-2023 Ram 1500 is the fifth-generation DT body, wider and about 225 lb lighter than the DS, and built only as a four-door Quad Cab or Crew Cab. For 2023, the final year of the EcoDiesel, Ram sold it only as a Crew Cab 4x4. Steps are ordered by body and cab, so the body code matters more on this page than anything about the engine.

Body and cab first, then the step

Nothing in this category is EcoDiesel-specific. Running boards and steps are ordered by body (DS or DT) and by cab (Regular, Quad or Crew). Two details trip people up. First, a 2019 Ram 1500 can be either body: Ram sold the new DT alongside the Classic that year, but only the Classic had the EcoDiesel. If your 2019 has the diesel, it is a DS. Second, the Regular Cab exists only on the DS; every DT is a four-door Quad Cab or Crew Cab. Your VIN settles both questions in a minute.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

There is no worn-out factory part being repaired here. A PowerStep is an add-on, equipment you choose for how the truck gets used, such as easier entry for passengers or for anyone climbing into a 4x4. Because it changes the truck rather than restoring it, take your time on fitment and on which version suits the way you drive.

What we carry

The steps in this collection come from AMP Research, in these versions of its PowerStep running board:

  • PowerStep (76239-01A), Plug-N-Play version.
  • PowerStep XL (77238-01A), Plug-N-Play version.
  • PowerStep Xtreme (78239-01A), Plug-N-Play version.

The product titles name the model and the Plug-N-Play version but do not spell out how they differ, so compare the specs and the listed fitment on each product page side by side before you buy. If the details still leave you torn between two, call the shop and we will help you sort it out. For license plate brackets, sled stops and the rest of the exterior lineup, go back to the main Exterior collection for your truck.

Fitment notes

These are Ram 1500 parts; the EcoDiesel was never offered in a 2500 or 3500. Confirm your body and cab by VIN, then check the fitment checker on each product page. On a 2023, expect a Crew Cab 4x4, since that was the only way the EcoDiesel was sold that year. Plug-N-Play is the version named in each title, so read the product page for what comes in the box and how it connects on your truck. On a high-mileage 2020-2023 truck, some owners on the forums suggest looking the frame over for surface rust around 85,000 miles. That is owner advice, not a factory interval, but install day is a good time to look underneath.

Frequently asked questions

Does a running board need to match the EcoDiesel engine?

No. Steps and running boards are ordered by body and cab, not by engine. On these years that means DS or DT first, then Regular, Quad or Crew Cab. The diesel under the hood does not change which step fits.

My 2019 Ram 1500 has the EcoDiesel. Which body do I shop for?

The DS. The all-new DT-body 2019 Ram 1500 was not offered with a diesel, so a 2019 EcoDiesel is a Ram 1500 Classic. Shop by the DS body and your cab, and confirm it with your VIN.

How do I choose between the PowerStep, XL and Xtreme?

Start with the listing, not the name. Each is an AMP Research PowerStep sold in Plug-N-Play form, and each product page lists its own specs and fitment. Check which ones are listed for your body and cab, compare the details side by side, and call the shop if you want a second opinion.

Can the shop install a PowerStep for me?

Yes. We install everything we sell, at the shop in Wildwood, FL. Call the number in the header with your year, body and cab, and we can confirm the right step before you order.

Not sure what fits? Call the shop at the number in the header, or use the fitment checker on any product page. We install everything we sell.
