The 6.7L Cummins Ram HD got a new frame for 2013, with hydroformed main rails and fully boxed rear rails, plus an upgraded Class V receiver, an integrated trailer brake controller and a tailgate-mounted HD camera. The 2010-2012 trucks use the earlier frame and a lower-rated receiver. That matters for a bumper-pull setup because your rig is only as strong as its lowest-rated piece: the receiver, the ball mount, the ball or the coupler. Tongue weight also counts against payload, and payload varies a lot by configuration. A 2018 Ram 2500 ranges from 1,466 to 3,497 lb.
Choosing a receiver or ball mount
Start with the shank. Your ball mount's shank has to match the receiver opening: 2, 2.5 or 3 inch. Then figure the drop. Measure from the ground to the top of the receiver opening, measure from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler with the trailer level, and subtract. Pick the Tow & Stow with the closest drop. Pintle versions are for trailers with a lunette ring instead of a ball coupler. If you need a receiver, the choice comes down to where it sits: hidden behind the roll pan, below the roll pan, or on a stock bumper. Heavy campers and long trailers usually call for a weight distribution hitch.

Fitment notes
Several Big Hitch Products receivers list 2003-2018 Cummins Rams, but the roll pan or bumper on your truck decides which one fits. Confirm whether your truck has a roll pan or a stock rear bumper, check the receiver class if it's a 2010-2012, and verify by VIN or the fitment checker before you order.
Frequently asked questions
Is the receiver on my 2011 Ram 2500 a Class V?
Not necessarily. Ram upgraded to a Class V receiver for 2013, and the 2010-2012 receivers are lower-rated. Check your receiver's rating before you choose a ball mount or plan a load, because the receiver caps the whole setup.
How do I pick the right drop?
Measure from the ground to the top of the receiver opening, then from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler with the trailer sitting level. The difference is your drop. B&W's Tow & Stow mounts here run from 2.5 to 9 inches, so pick the one closest to your number in the shank size your receiver takes.
Do I need a weight distribution hitch?
If the trailer maker or your owner's manual calls for one, yes. A weight distribution hitch like the B&W WDHK4500 spreads tongue weight forward to the truck's front axle and back to the trailer axles instead of loading it all on the rear of the truck.
What's a hidden receiver?
It mounts behind the roll pan so the receiver isn't hanging out in plain view. Big Hitch Products makes them in 2 inch (BHP10012) and 2.5 inch (BHP10032) for Cummins Rams; the BHP10034 mounts below the roll pan instead.
