Factory LED taillights showed up with the 2013 restyle on the upper trims, along with LED front signals and marker lamps. Lower trims and the 2010-2012 trucks did not get that package, so depending on year and trim, your truck may or may not have left the factory with LED taillights. That matters when you plan the wiring. The 2013 and newer tailgate needs care for a second reason: it carries an HD backup camera, and harness work for new taillights has to preserve it. What fails and why

The documented signal-lamp issue on this generation is a 2013 turn-signal recall, 13V-237. It covered 17,411 trucks that gave no bulb-out warning, so a failed turn signal did not trigger an indicator. If you have a 2013 and a dead signal bulb went unnoticed, check the VIN for an open recall. Outside of that recall, a taillight swap on these trucks comes down to the look and the signal style you want.
