Lighting on the 2010-2018 Ram 2500/3500 6.7L Cummins

This is the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty, built for 2010 through 2018 and replaced by the redesigned 2019 truck. The 2010-2012 trucks carry the original fourth-gen front fascia. For 2013 Ram gave the HD a larger grille and hood, and the lighting changed with it. Upper trims got halogen projector headlamps with LED front signals, LED marker lamps and LED taillights. Lower trims stayed with reflector halogen headlamps. The 2013-2018 projectors are halogen, not HID. So when you shop lights for your 6.7L Cummins Ram, two questions come first: is it a 2010-2012 or a 2013-2018, and does it have projector or reflector headlamps?

What fails and why

The documented lighting problems on this generation are two 2013 recalls. Recall 13V-240 covered 2013 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks built between January 7 and February 28, 2013 with the optional upgraded factory headlamps. The shutters in those lamps did not work properly in high-beam mode, and the result was poor high-beam output or glare. The remedy reconfigured the body controller. Recall 13V-237, a 2013 turn-signal recall, covered 17,411 trucks that gave no bulb-out warning, so a failed turn signal never showed an indicator. If you own a 2013 and see either symptom, run your VIN through a recall lookup before you spend money on lamps. Outside those recalls, the lamps on this page are about changing the look and the lighting of your truck.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

The lamps in this collection are upgraded replacements: complete aftermarket headlight and taillight assemblies that take the place of the factory housings. If you need an exact factory lamp, this is not that page. If you want a change, sort your options three ways. Style comes first. Up front that means switchback projector headlights, projectors with a halo, dual LED projectors and crystal headlights with an LED plank light bar. Out back it means plank-style LED tail lights and LED tail lights with a sequential turn signal or an amber sequential signal. Finish comes second: black, alpha-black, jet black, gloss black, smoked, red smoked or chrome. Last is how the lamp connects. Aftermarket LED headlamp assemblies are cataloged for the 2010-2018 Ram HD as one body style, but harness and bezel details differ by trim, so confirm whether you have the 2013+ projector or the reflector housing before you order.

Are the factory projector headlights on my 2013-2018 Ram HID?

No. The 2013-2018 upper-trim headlamps are halogen projectors with LED accents. Lower trims use reflector halogens. Knowing which one you have is the first step in choosing a replacement.

My 2013 Ram has poor high beams or glare. Is that a known issue?

Will new LED tail lights affect my backup camera?

On 2013 and newer trucks the tailgate also houses an HD backup camera. Any taillight or tailgate harness work has to leave that camera's wiring intact. Test the camera before you put the tailgate trim back on.

AlphaRex lists a headlight wiring converter and stock LED tail light wiring converters, one of them made for its Luxx Series.
