Call or Text (352) 722-5295Fuel filtration on the 2007.5-2009 RAM 6.7L Cummins
From the factory, the 6.7L Cummins in these Dodge Ram trucks filters fuel once: a single canister on the driver side of the engine, between the in-tank lift pump and the Bosch CP3. The housing carries the water-in-fuel sensor, Mopar 68065610AA. There is no frame-rail filter on 2007-2012 trucks; that second filter came in 2013. Diesel Hub lists the 2007-2009 element as Mopar 68061634AA or Fleetguard FS43258, and 68061633AA is the complete housing assembly, not the element.
What fails and why
Filter neglect is the top preventable fuel problem on this engine. A loaded filter shows up as loss of power, rail pressure codes and a water-in-fuel light, which is why a rail pressure code should send you to the filter before anything expensive. The factory in-tank lift pump is the other weak spot: it has limited flow margin, and Fleece ties it to low rail pressure codes, hard starts after sitting and stumbling under load.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
For a stock truck the answer is simple: the correct element every 15,000 miles or 12 months. If you tow heavy or want more protection, a frame-mount system from FASS or AirDog adds a water separator and a fine filter upstream of the factory canister, with its own pump feeding the CP3. Both brands catalog systems for 2007.5-2018 6.7L trucks. Some frame-mount setups draw fuel through a sump or draw straw; Fleece notes those can see starvation near a quarter tank, so plan the pickup side along with the pump.

Fitment notes
Elements are year-specific. Diesel Hub lists different elements for 2007-2009 and 2010-2012, and 2009 trucks got an updated housing and element, so confirm by VIN before you order. A 2013+ two-filter kit does not apply to these one-filter trucks. The FASS Titanium Signature Series systems here are listed for 2005-2018 and 2021-2024 5.9L/6.7L Cummins, and the Drop-In Series for 2003-2024, which covers your truck. The universal AirDog Raptor pumps are not truck-specific, so check what each listing includes. The fitment checker or a call to the shop settles it.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I change the fuel filter on a 2007.5-2009 6.7L?
Every 15,000 miles or 12 months, or when the dash warns you. Diesel Hub lists the element as Mopar 68061634AA or Fleetguard FS43258. Confirm by VIN, because 2009 trucks received an updated housing and element.
Can I run the NanoNet filter on my 2008?
Diesel Hub lists the NanoNet dual-element filter (Mopar 68157291AA or Fleetguard FS53000) for 2010-2012 housings and does not list it as a direct fit for 2007-2009. Stick with the element listed for your year and confirm by VIN.
Does a FASS or AirDog system replace the factory filter?
No. These systems add a water separator and a fine filter upstream of the factory canister. The factory element stays in the system and still gets changed on schedule.
What does the water-in-fuel light mean?
The sensor in the filter housing has detected water. Diesel Hub lists the water-in-fuel light among the symptoms of fuel filter neglect, so service the filter and check your fuel source. A frame-mount system with a water separator adds another line of defense.
