Call or Text (352) 722-5295DPF-back exhaust for the 2007.5-2009 Ram 6.7L Cummins
The exhaust on the 6.7L Cummins runs from the manifold through the HE351VE turbo and downpipe into a diesel oxidation catalyst, a NOx adsorber catalyst and a diesel particulate filter. The section you can change for sound, looks or flow is the pipe behind the DPF. That is what a DPF-back kit replaces; MBRP calls its version filter-back. These kits are made for the 2007.5-2009 6.7L pickup and fit every cab and bed length. On these trucks the DPF canister does most of the silencing, so the kit changes the tailpipe and muffler section only.
What fails and why
The documented exhaust trouble on this truck is the DPF itself, not the tailpipe. Without SCR, the 2007.5-2012 6.7L runs richer and puts more soot into the filter, so it loads quickly. Symptoms are frequent regens, filter-full messages, derate, poor fuel economy and lost power, and short trips and idling make it worse. A new tailpipe will not change that. What helps is letting regens finish, limiting idle time and running low-ash CJ-4 oil. The gaskets on this page seal joints in the system, including the catalytic converter joint and the exhaust pipe flange, so replace them whenever those joints come apart.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
If you are replacing the factory tailpipe for any reason, a filter-back system is both the replacement and the upgrade. MBRP offers this truck in 4-inch and 5-inch diameters and in Armor Lite, Armor Plus and Armor BLK versions, which differ in material and finish; each listing spells out what you get. Pick the diameter and finish you want, then match your tip to the pipe size.
What we carry

- Adapters: the MBRP universal exhaust adapter for joining pipe of different sizes.
- Gaskets: MAHLE F32902 catalytic converter gasket, F32901 exhaust pipe flange gasket and B32818 crankcase breather gasket.
For tips, mufflers and other brands, see our full exhaust department.
Fitment notes
These kits are for pickups. The 3500 chassis cab routes its exhaust differently, so confirm you have a pickup, and check whether your truck is single rear wheel or dually because the tailpipe exit differs. The MAHLE F32901 flange gasket is listed for 2007.5-2010 only, while the F32902 converter gasket covers 2007.5-2018. These trucks were sold as Dodge Ram. Verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Should I get the 4-inch or 5-inch MBRP system for my 2008 Ram?
Both install behind the DPF on 2007.5-2009 pickups and keep all of the aftertreatment in place. The difference is pipe diameter and the look at the tailpipe. Pick the size you want, and make sure your tip inlet matches it.
Will a filter-back system make my 6.7L louder?
On these trucks the DPF canister does most of the silencing, and a filter-back kit only replaces the tailpipe and muffler section behind it. How the truck sounds afterward depends on the kit you choose, so read the listing or call the shop before you order.
Will a new exhaust fix frequent regens on my Ram?
No. Frequent regens on this truck come from DPF loading, which happens because the 2007.5-2012 engine runs without SCR and makes more soot. Let regens finish, limit idling and run low-ash CJ-4 oil, and if you are seeing derate, get the truck scanned.
