Call or Text (352) 722-5295Filters on the 2007.5-2009 Ram 6.7L Cummins
The 6.7L Cummins holds 12.0 quarts with the filter, fed by a crank-driven gerotor pump. The factory spin-on is Mopar 5083285AA, which crosses to Fleetguard LF3972 or LF16035, and both fit 2007.5-2012. There is a second filter that is easy to forget: the closed crankcase ventilation (CCV) filter, which sits in a housing on the valve cover.
Why the filter change matters on this engine
Active DPF regeneration uses late post-injection, and on these trucks some of that fuel ends up in the crankcase. Signs are an oil level climbing above the full mark, thin oil with a diesel smell on the dipstick, or lowered viscosity on an oil analysis. Ram lists up to 5% fuel dilution as acceptable. Heavy idling, short trips and frequent regens make it worse. On heavily idled or towing trucks, Diesel Hub recommends an oil analysis 500-1,000 miles ahead of the scheduled change and keeping idle under 10 minutes in any hour.

Fitment and install notes
The spin-on filters here cover the whole Cummins run, so they fit 2007.5, 2008 and 2009 trucks alike. The CCV filter cover is listed only through 2011. Pre-fill the new oil filter about three-quarters before you spin it on; a Lisle 57180 cap tool keeps the spill down. Use the fitment checker on the product page, or confirm by VIN if you are not sure what is on your truck.
Frequently asked questions
What oil filter fits a 2008 Ram 2500 with the 6.7L Cummins?
The factory part is Mopar 5083285AA, which crosses to Fleetguard LF3972 or LF16035; both fit 2007.5-2012. In this collection, the MAHLE OC1001 and the PPE MicroPure XR are both listed for this engine. Change it every 7,500 miles or 6 months with 12.0 quarts of low-ash CJ-4 oil.
Why is the oil level rising on my 6.7L?
On a DPF-era 6.7L, oil climbing above the full mark is a known sign of fuel dilution from regen post-injection. Ram lists up to 5% dilution as acceptable and anything above that calls for diagnosis. An oil analysis tells you where you stand, and a shorter interval with 5W-40 full synthetic CJ-4 or CK-4 oil is the low-cost counter.
