2007.5-2009 Dodge 6.7L Cummins Digital Monitors

Monitors for the 2007.5-2009 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins. This page carries the Edge Insight CTS3, a touch-screen OBD-II monitor. It is the single most useful add-on for a DPF-era 6.7L: you see soot load, regen status, boost and exhaust temperature as they happen, instead of waiting for the cluster's exhaust-filter warning.

Monitors on the 2007.5-2009 Ram 6.7L Cummins

These trucks are OBD-II with a diesel-specific data set. The ECM reports boost, rail pressure, exhaust temperature from the factory sensors, DPF soot load and regen status, but the factory dash gives you only a basic exhaust-filter warning. A monitor reads that data and puts it on a screen. The Edge Insight CTS3 is the digital touch-screen gauge monitor listed for 2007.5-2009 6.7L trucks, and it is monitor-only: it does not alter the tune or the factory calibration. That keeps it emissions-neutral, and it makes as much sense on a stock truck as a modified one. Find more for this engine on our Cummins page.

What a monitor catches

A monitor doesn't fix anything. It shows you what's coming. On these trucks, DPF loading and a sticking VGT develop silently until the dash warns or a derate hits. The 2007.5-2009 pickups came before SCR and control NOx with EGR and a NOx adsorber catalyst, which loads the DPF faster than on the SCR trucks that followed. Watching soot percentage and regen status tells you when the filter is filling and when a regen is underway. That matters because idling through a regen drives fuel dilution, so seeing one in progress is your cue to keep driving. Boost and turbo readings help you notice the Holset HE351VE variable-geometry turbo acting up before it costs you a derate.

What we carry

The monitor here is the Edge Products Insight CTS3 (84130-3), sold as a universal OBD-II monitor. It's the core of an Edge setup. If you tow, plan on pairing it with a pyrometer probe for pre-turbo EGT. Edge's EAS EGT kit and 0-100 psi pressure sensor are on the accessories page for this truck, and the 38600 A-pillar mount, listed for 2006-2009 6.7L trucks, is on the mounts page.

Fitment notes

Universal OBD-II means the CTS3 connects through the factory diagnostic port, but the readings it can show depend on what your truck reports. DPF-specific parameters vary by year, so check the parameter list for your model year before you count on a particular reading. If you want the screen off the dash, the Edge 38600 A-pillar mount is listed for the 2006-2009 cab; it won't carry over to the fourth-generation cab that arrived for 2010. Chassis cab owners, especially 4500/5500, should verify by VIN before ordering, since those trucks use a different chassis from the pickups.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Insight CTS3 a tuner?

No. The Insight CTS3 is a monitor-only device. It reads the data your ECM reports and displays it, and it does not alter the tune. Your truck runs the same as it did before you plugged it in.

Will it show DPF soot load and regen status?

The 2007.5-2009 trucks report soot load and regen status over OBD-II, and seeing them is the main reason to run a monitor on one. DPF-specific parameters vary by year, so check the CTS3's parameter list for your exact model year before you buy.

Can the CTS3 show pre-turbo EGT?

With a probe, yes. The recommended setup for a truck that tows pairs the CTS3 with a pyrometer probe for pre-turbo exhaust temperature. The Edge EAS EGT kit for that job is on the accessories page for this truck.
