2004.5-2007 Dodge 5.9L Cummins Leveling Kits

Leveling kits for the 2004.5-2007 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 5.9L Cummins. These raise the front of the truck 1 to 2 inches so it sits flatter. The one thing to know before you install one: any level changes caster, and this truck wants about 5 to 5.25 degrees after a 0-2 inch level.

Leveling kits on the 2004.5-2007 RAM 5.9L Cummins

Both 2WD and 4WD versions of this third-gen Dodge Ram HD use coil springs up front, with leaf springs in the rear. On 4WD trucks the coils sit on a link-coil solid axle located by trailing arms and a two-eye track bar. A leveling kit raises the front so the truck sits flatter, and it leaves the factory arms and steering linkage in place. It is the smallest height change you can make on a 5.9L Cummins Ram, and the alignment work it needs is the same work any lift needs, just on a smaller scale.

What to watch after you level

Raising the front changes caster. At stock height, the preferred caster on this truck is 4.0 to 4.5 degrees. After a 0-2 inch level, the target is about 5 to 5.25 degrees positive. Camber should stay at 0 plus or minus 0.20 degrees. The factory Y-type steering linkage keeps the same toe spec after leveling, but only total toe is adjustable on the stock linkage, so bringing caster back into range takes adjustable control arms or eccentrics. Put them on the parts list with the kit so you are not finding out at the alignment rack.

Leveling kit vs. lift kit

A leveling kit is the right call when you want the truck to sit level and keep the factory geometry close to stock. If you want real height or a much bigger tire, step up to a lift kit and expect more parts and more alignment work. Leveling also does nothing for rear sag under a fifth-wheel or gooseneck. That is the common hauling complaint on this generation, and air helper springs are the fix for it.

What we carry

This collection is Daystar Comfort Ride leveling kits. For 2WD trucks there are 1-inch, 1.5-inch and 2-inch kits (KC09102BK, KC09103BK and KC09100BK). For 4WD trucks there is a 1-inch front kit (KC09117BK). Daystar lists all of them for 1994-2013 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins trucks.

Fitment notes

The 2WD and 4WD kits are different parts, so check the drivetrain in the title before you order. The 2003-and-later front end uses a different axle, track bar and ball-joint design from the 1994-2002 trucks, so most front-end parts do not cross between them; these Daystar kits are the exception, and Daystar lists them for both. On a 2007, confirm the 5.9L is under the hood, since trucks built after January 1, 2007 got the 6.7L. Verify by VIN when in doubt.

Frequently asked questions

How much caster does a leveled Ram 2500 need?

Aim for about 5 to 5.25 degrees positive after a 0-2 inch level, up from the 4.0 to 4.5 degrees preferred at stock height. The stock linkage only adjusts total toe, so caster correction takes adjustable control arms or eccentrics.

Which Daystar kit fits a 4WD 5.9L?

For 4WD trucks this collection carries the Daystar KC09117BK 1-inch front Comfort Ride kit. The 1, 1.5 and 2-inch kits are listed for 2WD trucks, so they are not the right choice for a 4x4.

Will a leveling kit fix rear sag when I tow?

No. Rear leaf sag under fifth-wheel and gooseneck loads is a separate problem: the rear sits low and the headlights aim high. Air helper springs with an onboard compressor handle that, and you will find them under suspension components for this truck.
