2004.5-2007 Dodge 5.9L Cummins Oil Pans

Oil pans, pan gaskets, the pickup tube, pan bolts and drain plugs for the 2004.5-2007 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 5.9L Cummins. Before the pan comes off, know that the common-rail block carries a stiffener plate across the oil-pan rail, and the engine holds 12 quarts with the filter, so have a drain pan big enough to catch all of it.

The oil pan on the 2004.5-2007 RAM 5.9L Cummins

The common-rail block was strengthened over the earlier 24-valve block for higher cylinder pressure, with sculpted side walls, stiffening rails and a stiffener plate across the oil-pan rail. The front gear case is indexed by dowel tubes in the lower bolts. The oil system holds 12 quarts with the filter, and the factory drain plug is Mopar 05080631AB. Many of the genuine Cummins parts here are titled 2003-2007, so the same pan, gasket and pickup tube serve the whole common-rail 5.9 run.

Why owners land on this page

Pan work comes down to the individual truck. The usual reasons are that the pan has to come off for other work, the pan or its gasket needs replacing, or the owner wants a better drain setup. With the pan down, Cummins packages a lower engine gasket kit (4089173), and the oil pickup tube (3949692) is right there if it needs replacing.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

For a factory-correct repair, genuine Cummins covers the oil pan (3949769), pan gasket (3958165), pickup tube and lower gasket kit, and MAHLE offers the OS32278 pan gasket. Dorman's 264-470 is a replacement oil pan titled 2003-2012 5.9L and 6.7L. The upgrade side is hardware: the XDP XD621 black-phosphate pan bolt kit, the Mishimoto MMODP-1815B magnetic drain plug, the WCFab WCF205-199 #10 JIC oil drain block fitting, and the ATS 402-009-1000 drain plug made for ATS pans and differential covers.

What we carry

Parts here come from Cummins, MAHLE, Dorman, Mishimoto, Wehrli Custom Fabrication, ATS Diesel Performance and XDP: oil pans, pan gaskets, a lower engine gasket kit, the pickup tube, pan bolts, drain plugs and a drain fitting. The ATS plug also fits ATS differential covers, which is why it shows up under that part type too.

Fitment notes

The Cummins pan, gasket, pickup tube and lower gasket kit are titled 2003-2007 5.9L, and the Dorman pan is titled 2003-2012 5.9L and 6.7L. The Mishimoto magnetic plug is titled 1989-1993 and 2002-2013 5.9L and 6.7L. The ATS plug is listed for ATS pans and covers, so if you run a factory pan, check the product page before ordering it. The 2007 model year includes both 5.9L and 6.7L trucks, so confirm your engine and verify by VIN before you order.

Frequently asked questions

What drain plug does the factory pan use?

The factory drain plug is Mopar 05080631AB. The Mishimoto MMODP-1815B magnetic drain plug on this page is titled for 1989-1993 and 2002-2013 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins. The ATS plug is made for ATS pans and differential covers.
