2007.5-2010 GMC Duramax LMM Oil Filters

Oil filters and added filtration for the 2007.5-2010 LMM Duramax in the GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD. A change is a 10-quart job on the OE ACDelco PF2232 element. The question worth asking on a particulate-filter-equipped Duramax is not only which filter you spin on, but how long the oil underneath it stays in spec.

Oil filters on the 2007.5-2010 Sierra HD LMM

Fill capacity is 10 quarts with the filter, the factory spin-on is the ACDelco PF2232, and warm idle runs around 680 rpm. The engine oil cooler lives inside the driver-side radiator tank, which is worth knowing when you are chasing oil temperature on a Sierra that tows in the heat. Low-ash CJ-4 oil came in as a requirement with the particulate filter on this generation, so the filter decision and the oil decision get made together.

What shortens the interval

The LMM's oil problem is dilution, not filtration. Active regeneration adds fuel late in the combustion cycle to heat the exhaust, part of it lands on the cylinder walls and drains into the crankcase, and the oil ends up high on the dipstick, smelling of diesel and thinner than new. Past roughly 5 percent fuel by volume it is excessive. Trucks running short trips see it faster than trucks turning highway miles, which is why two identical Sierras can need two different intervals.

OE element vs. added filtration

For a stock Sierra on a reasonable interval, the PF2232 is all the filter the engine asks for. If you want a step up, PPE's Micropure XR is the performance element here. If you want filtration beyond what one spin-on can do, PPE's oil centrifuge filtration kit is listed for 2006-2010 Duramax, and there is a threaded 13/16 in-16 UNF adapter for the filter mount. None of it replaces an oil analysis, which is the only way to know your real interval.

What we carry

Pacific Performance Engineering supplies the Micropure XR oil filter, the oil centrifuge filtration kit and the threaded oil filter adapter. ACDelco supplies the PF2232 factory element. The rest of the Duramax oil system sits one level up.

Fitment notes

Confirm the engine code before you order. A 2007 Sierra Classic is the previous body with the LBZ, and parts in this category are frequently cataloged for 2001-2019 or 2006-2010 Duramax ranges that cover several engine codes at once. The adapter is sold by thread size, so match it to the mount you are running. Use the fitment checker on the product page, or send us the VIN and we will confirm it.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PF2232 still correct if I run a synthetic performance oil?

Yes. The element and the oil are separate decisions: the PF2232 is the factory filter for this engine whatever you pour in, and capacity stays at 10 quarts. What does change with the oil is the low-ash requirement that came with the particulate filter, so read the API category on the jug before you buy a case.

What does the centrifuge filtration kit actually add?

It is filtration beyond the factory spin-on element, listed for 2006-2010 Duramax. Whether it makes sense depends on how your Sierra is used and what your oil analyses look like. Call the shop before you order and we will walk you through what the install involves; we install everything we sell.
