2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Valve Train Parts

This page covers valve train parts for the 2020-2022 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 with the 6.7L Powerstroke: pushrods, valve spring retainers, valve stem seals and a thrust washer set. The one thing to know is that Ford revised the heads and internals for 2020, so match every part to its listed years and your VIN before it goes in.

Valve train on the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The third-generation 6.7L Powerstroke is still an overhead-valve pushrod V8 with the cam in the block. Each cylinder gets four valves, two intake and two exhaust, for 32 in all. The aluminum heads are reverse-flow, with the exhaust ports facing the valley, and each head is held down with six bolts per cylinder. For 2020 Ford strengthened the head and block castings and moved to forged steel short-skirt pistons at 15.8:1 compression, down from 16.2:1. The result is 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft in the pickups.

What fails and why

The valve train is not where the 2020-2022 6.7L is known to give trouble. The weak point on this engine is the Bosch CP4.2 high-pressure fuel pump, which can send metal through the injectors, rails and lines when it lets go, and that work lives in the fuel system, not here. So most parts on this page get bought because the engine is already apart for a head job, a rebuild or a build, rather than as a fix for a known valve train failure. If you are in the engine for one reason, this is where you find the parts you would rather replace while you are there.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

The MAHLE pieces are rebuild parts. The SS46062 valve stem seal set and the TW-711S thrust washer set are the kind of parts you replace while the engine is open so you are not going back in later. The XDP XD322 Street Performance pushrods and the SPE Motorsport S100324 titanium valve spring retainers are the upgrade side. They are for owners building an engine who want something other than factory-style parts in the top end. If the plan is a stock rebuild, start with the MAHLE parts. If the plan is a built engine, talk to us about the whole combination before you buy one piece of it.

What we carry

MAHLE covers seals and wear parts with the SS46062 valve stem seal set, listed for 2011-2023, and the TW-711S thrust washer set, listed for 2011-2022. XDP supplies the XD322 Street Performance pushrods in 3/8-inch, listed for 2011-2024 6.7L engines. SPE Motorsport makes the S100324 titanium valve spring retainers, listed for 2011-2025. We install what we sell, here in Wildwood, FL, so if you would rather hand us the truck than the parts list, that works too.

Fitment notes

Every part on this page lists a year span that covers 2020-2022, but do not assume any 6.7L part crosses the 2020 line just because the engine looks the same. Ford revised the pistons, rods, crank, block and heads for 2020, and short blocks, long blocks and head castings do not swap across that split. The 2023-and-later High-Output engine is different again, with its own compression ratio and exhaust manifolds. Chassis cab F-350 through F-600 trucks share the 2020-2022 6.7L, but with a different turbo and calibration, and engine assemblies are VIN-specific. Run your VIN through the fitment checker on the product page before you order.

Frequently asked questions

How many valves does the 2020-2022 6.7L Powerstroke have?

Thirty-two. It is a pushrod V8 with the cam in the block and four valves per cylinder, two intake and two exhaust. The heads are reverse-flow aluminum castings held by six bolts per cylinder, with the exhaust side facing the valley.

Do 2011-2019 valve train parts fit a 2020-2022 truck?

Some do, and every part on this page is listed for a span that includes 2020-2022. The heads and bottom end changed for 2020, though, so a part listed only for 2011-2019 should not be assumed to fit. Go by the listed years and your VIN.

Should I replace valve stem seals while the heads are off?

That is the best time to do it. With the heads on the bench, the MAHLE SS46062 set is easy to reach, and you will not be pulling the heads again later for a seal. The same thinking applies to the TW-711S thrust washers when the bottom end is open.

Does a stock truck need titanium retainers or performance pushrods?

Not for normal service. A healthy 2020-2022 pickup makes 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft from the factory. The XDP pushrods and SPE retainers are build parts, picked when the engine is already apart and the owner wants more than factory-style pieces in the top end.
