Call or Text (352) 722-5295Valve covers on the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The 6.7L Powerstroke is an overhead-valve, cam-in-block pushrod V8 with four valves per cylinder, two intake and two exhaust. The aluminum heads are reverse-flow, with the exhaust side in the valley, and Ford strengthened the head casting for 2020. A valve cover seals the top of each head. It also does a second job on this engine: the crankcase ventilation breather is in the valve cover, and oil mist passes through it into the charge-air system.
What to look for
A valve cover gasket is a seal, and there are two reasons to replace one: the cover is coming off for other work, or the gasket is leaking. Before you blame a gasket for oil where it should not be, know how the CCV system works on this engine. Oil mist leaves through the valve cover breather and enters the charge-air side, so oil inside the intercooler or boost tubes is a CCV symptom first. That is not a gasket problem, and it is not automatically a turbo seal failure either. Look at the outside of the cover seam for a gasket leak, and at the CCV system for oil in the intake path.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
Valve cover gaskets are stock replacement parts, and there is no performance version to chase. The choice is between one side and both. If only one cover is coming off, a single-side gasket does the job. If both covers are coming off, or you want both sides done in one visit, a complete set keeps it simple. Plan on a new gasket any time a cover comes off, and clean the sealing surfaces before the new one goes on.
What we carry
- MAHLE valve cover gasket sets: VS50658SL for the left side, VS50658SR for the right side, plus the VS50658 and VS50852 gasket sets.
- Dorman valve cover gaskets: 263-201 for the left side and 263-200 for the right side.
MAHLE and Dorman each sell left and right separately, so you only buy the side you need.
Fitment notes
These gaskets are listed for 2011-2020 6.7L Powerstroke engines. That covers a 2020 truck on paper, but the listings stop there. If your F-250 or F-350 is a 2021 or 2022, give us your VIN and we will confirm the right gasket before you order. Order by side, since left and right are separate part numbers. Chassis cab trucks share the engine family but are separate products, so verify those by VIN too.
Frequently asked questions
Do these valve cover gaskets fit a 2021 or 2022 F-250?
The MAHLE and Dorman gaskets here are listed for 2011-2020 trucks. Do not assume they carry forward. Call with your VIN or use the fitment checker on the product page before you order for a 2021 or 2022.
Should I buy one side or the full set?
Buy by the job. If only one cover is coming off, the left or right gasket is enough. If both are coming off, MAHLE also lists full gasket sets; check the product page for exactly what is in the box.
Is oil in my intercooler a valve cover gasket problem?
No. On the 6.7L, crankcase oil mist leaves through the valve cover breather and enters the charge-air system, so an oily intercooler is a CCV symptom. It is not a gasket leak, and it is not automatically a turbo seal failure either.
