Front differential covers on the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The Dana Super 60 is the solid front drive axle on 2017-2022 4x4 Super Duty trucks, F-450 pickups included. On these years it uses a 28-spline pinion, and the carrier changes between the 4.30 and 4.88 ratios. Tremor trucks get a Dana limited-slip front differential, an item only the Tremor package adds on 2020-2022 4x4s. The cover pattern has carried across several generations of Powerstroke trucks: SPE Motorsport lists its Dana 60 front cover for 1999-2025, and Mag-Hytec lists its 60-FF for 2006-2026.

Stock cover or aftermarket

If the factory cover is straight and dry, a front service is drain, clean and refill. An aftermarket cover makes sense when the axle is already open and you want a heavier piece on the front of the truck. AFE builds its front cover as the Street Series 46-71100A and the Pro Series 46-71100B. Mag-Hytec's 60-FF and SPE Motorsport's Dana 60 cover are the other choices for this axle.

Fitment notes

This is a 4x4-only page. 2WD and 4WD fronts are completely different, so no front axle, hub or steering part crosses between them. Ford's rear-axle fluid specs do not automatically carry to the front, so check your owner's manual for the front grade before you fill. Verify by VIN if you bought the truck used or are not sure how it was optioned.

Frequently asked questions

Does my 2WD Super Duty need a front differential cover?

No. 2WD 2020-2022 Super Duty trucks use Ford's Twin I-Beam independent front suspension instead of a drive axle, so there is no front differential to cover. These covers are for 4x4 trucks with the Dana Super 60.

Is the Tremor front axle different?

The Tremor package adds a Dana limited-slip front differential that other 2020-2022 trucks do not get. It is still a 4x4 Dana Super 60, so the covers here are the ones to look at. Call us with the VIN if you want a second check.
