Lighting on the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

These trucks are the first three years of the fourth-generation Super Duty, before the 2020 refresh, and their lamps are a fitment group of their own. What came from the factory depends on year and trim. For 2017, the standard headlamp was a dual-beam jewel-effect halogen unit. Quad-beam LED headlamps, LED taillamps and LED fog lamps were optional on Lariat and King Ranch and standard on Platinum.

By 2019, the XL wore quad-beam jewel-effect halogen headlamps. Quad-beam LED headlamps with LED taillamps came with the Lariat Ultimate and King Ranch Ultimate packages and were standard on Platinum and Limited, while the Lariat Sport package stayed halogen. Upper trims could also be ordered with LED box lighting, LED side-mirror spotlights, an LED high-mount stop lamp and automatic high beams.

Why owners replace lamps

There is no documented pattern failure for 2017-2019 Super Duty headlamps. Replacement usually comes down to three things: halogen output that is dimmer than you want, lens haze or moisture inside the housing as the truck ages, and collision damage. Any of those is a good moment to look at an upgraded housing instead of buying the same factory lamp again.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

A factory replacement keeps the truck exactly as built. An aftermarket housing changes the look and, on a halogen truck, can move you to LED projector light. Halogen-to-LED housing swaps are a direct-swap category on these trucks, as long as the housing is built for your truck's factory lamp type. That's why aftermarket housings are usually sold either for factory-halogen trucks or for factory-LED trucks: the connectors and the lighting control module differ between the two.

What we carry

This collection is AlphaRex. Up front, the Nova-Series LED projector headlights come in gloss black (880100), chrome (880101) and matte black (880102), and the Pro-Series projector headlights come in chrome (880107), jet black (880108) and black (880106). Out back, the AlphaRex Pro-Series LED tail lights come in jet black (657010) and red smoked (657020). Pick the finish that suits your trim, then match the housing to your factory lamp type. For the rest of your truck, head to our Power Stroke parts hub.

Fitment notes

Lamps do not cross the 2020 refresh. Ford restyled the grille and headlamps for 2020, so 2020-2022 lamps and 2017-2019 lamps are different parts even though the cab carried over. Confirm your factory lamp type, halogen or LED, before ordering; trucks with factory LED headlamps got LED taillamps with them. If you're unsure, verify by VIN or call us.

Frequently asked questions

Will these lights fit a 2020 or newer Super Duty?

Not unless the listing says so. Ford restyled the grille and headlamps for the 2020 refresh, so 2017-2019 and 2020-2022 lamps are separate parts. Check the year range on the product page before ordering.

How do I tell if my truck has factory LED headlamps?

Start with the trim. Platinum trucks, and 2019 Limited trucks, came with quad-beam LED headlamps standard, and on Lariat and King Ranch they came with option packages. Factory LED headlamps were paired with LED taillamps. If the window sticker isn't handy, verify by VIN or call the shop.

Why do aftermarket headlights come in halogen and LED versions?

Because the trucks were wired two ways. Halogen and LED trucks use separate harness and lighting control module setups, so a housing built for one will not plug straight into the other. Order the version that matches what your truck left the factory with.

Is there a known headlight problem on 2017-2019 Super Duty trucks?

No pattern failure is documented for these headlamps. The common reasons to replace them are weak halogen output, haze or moisture in the lens, and collision damage.
